Glorious views
Feb 2020
Took us a while to get there from Ichinose Diamond Ski area - required a bus ride via Sun Valley. Once there there was a chairlift that took us all the way to the top. Once there, at top of Mt Yokote (2307m) there was a cafe with an outdoor balcony area which was great for panaromic views and photography. Unfortunately it did look like this side of Shiga Kogen was not well patronised as the ski lift ran very slowly and there were only a few people about. At the bottom of the valley there weren't many hotels/eateries and some hotels looked abandoned and dilapidated. One local mentioned that the place used to be well patronised but some runs are now closed/unused due to lack of visitors. We saw one of the main runs overgrown with bushes and the lifts were not running at all. Overall though the views from Mt Yokote made it all worthwhile. Shame about the deserted nature of the area now though...!

Worth a look just for the view
Jan 2020
The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. We could see clearly in all directions and not only were the alps stunning, there was also a volcano smoking not to far away also.

The skiing, though not the best in the area, is great also. Nice long runs with varying levels.

The bottom section is probably one of the best beginners areas I have seen.

There’s a skinny cold abused looking dog out the front
Jan 2019 • Friends
There was a shivering dog here chained up out the front sitting out the front in -12°. It was incredibly skinny and did not look healthy. The treatment of this dog is not right

Nice views, with okay skiing
Jan 2018 • Family
All of the hard runs were closed leaving only easy green runs open, that was a pity after the 1 hour bus ride.
The runs that were open mainly followed summer roads up the mountain and were a real bottleneck of learners making it almost impossible to pass. Think lines of people pizza turning.
When you get past those sections it's almost flat which means no speed.
The Crumpet Cafe directly above the lift is great, it used to be a Starbucks.

Excellent views

Excellent views but a bit windy. The top of the mountain is well worth the trip. Snacks and coffee can be found at the Crumpet Cafe.

highest point in the park
Jun 2016 • Couples
was here enjoying the park. Center of the ski resort in the winter and many hiking trails in the summer. Gorgeous views and miles of empty hiking trails. Place is covered in old growth forests!!

Hidden gem of the Shiga ski field

Prefer to keep this one quiet... excellent ski area. Zero crowds, steep and powder in a season when no where else there was any

Great skiing

Large linked ski area and although some of the lift systems are out dated we still had a great time Staying at opus high Kogen at the end of the valley was a great choice

Breathtaking views of the Japanese Alps
Jul 2015
I was there after seeing the Monkey Park at the morning. Can be accessed by bus. I felt like in the European Alps. Very nice scenery, comfortable temperature and nice views. You can take a walk around there or use the cable car to the top. Definitely recommended if you like mountains and/or nature. Be aware to take enough cash with you as there is no ATM nearby (the next in Nagano).

Great time snowboarding to start the New Year
Jan 2016 • Family
My family and I rang in the New Year at a hotel around my. Yokote and were fortunate to come around the time fresh snow dropped. It was a great experience. There are several ski resorts to chose from. We stayed at a hotel that was five minutes away from the lift, how convenient!

Also, there are several places that provide breathtaking views ov the mountain and valley below.

Great place for a family visit.
