スノーモンキー
Jun 2020 • Couples
Famous Onsen - Check up SNOW MONKEY - monkeys take Onsen- hot spring, really.

Amazing hospitality and experience!
May 2019 • Friends
We stayed one night here after visiting the snow monkeys and it was our first introduction to a Japanese Onsen. It set the bar as this was hands down one of our best experiences during our travels to Japan. The room, the hospitality, the food! and the friendliness of the staff is something that we will never forget.

Good Experience and Location
Feb 2019 • Couples
Warm welcome and superb traditionally run hotel. Our hostess and staff could not have been more kind and helpful, great Onsens and lovely food.
Yudanaka is a pleasant small town and a good centre for visiting Obuse (Hokusai Museum!), Masumoto, Nagano and surroundings (good train service) as well as the Snow Monkey Park.
A convenient distance if returning to Tokyo (tain to Nagano and then Shinkansen).

Hmmm nothing to say except its got a great little restaurant or two and its within a long walk ...
Dec 2018
Yes that's right, arrived as the first snow of the season started. Walked up to our Onsen and saw almost no one. The shops all looked closed, the streets deserted. It was odd. For such a populace country and this is not a cute village like Shibu Onsen. This
is where people really live and work and is the real Japan I suppose. A couple of really good little restaurants, a traditional pub like place run by two young guys who really know their food and beer, and Sunshine's cafe, for a quick lunch or early dinner. Lovely people in this place though really really lovely people. Nothing is too much to ask. You cannot walk to the snow monkeys from Yudanaka, but you can walk back. The walk there is ALL UP HILL well over an hour and then some. The walk back is fascinating and all down hill. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to come back via Shibu Onsen. stop and bathe your feet in the publiic bathes. take a small hand towel to dry your feet.

Fun for a brief visit
Feb 2019 • Solo
I had a good time here but wouldn’t stay for more than a couple of days. There isn’t a huge amount to do other than the snow monkeys (go visit!) and a bus service to the ski resorts which is good but people may prefer to stay in the ski resorts themselves (however if they want to stay in yudanaka the bus is a good reliable service). If you’re not interested in snow sports there won’t be a huge amount to do here other than onsen/monkeys - which you can do easily in 2 days (or even combine them in 1 day if you’re rushing).

I would probably not come back for yudanaka specifically, though I loved my ryokan (yudanaka onsen seifuso) so would come back purely to stay there again.

It’s a very easy train ride from Nagano. I believe you can also get a bus as well. All the hotels have brochures on the skiing and other activities, as well as bus timetables.

After a walking day in the snow it was nice to spend a moment in this onsen. The outside one is absolutely fabulous among the trees and the rocks ... a fully zen instant ..

Nice quaint town for onsen
Jan 2019 • Couples
Japanese onsen seldom let you down if you go to a proper ones. We checked into our hotel and checkout both the public onsen and the ones offered in our hotel. And of course the best are always in the traditional ryokan with good onsen.

A bette choice compared to Shibu Onsen
Jan 2018 • Couples
A non touristy onsen, Yudanaka is a much better choice if you like a local experience for lesser cost. The ryokans are excellent and good options to eat as well👍🏻 Plus very convenient to take public buses to Snow monkey park, Shibu Onsen, Shiga Kogen Ski area. The railway station is walkable as well!

Great hotel base for visiting Snow Monkeys
Jun 2018 • Family
Welcomed with a smile at the train station by a friendly English-speaking man who also handled the next morning´s van trip to Snow Monkey Park & brought our luggage when he picked us up to return to the train station. The rooms were great, big open windows toward the mountains and the sounds of rushing water. Private night bath on roof under their neon sign was fun- pay a bit extra and reserve in advance. Very clean and efficient, with a European feel as they host ski groups in winter. Dropoff and pickup for visiting the nearby Snow Monkeys in their hot spring park was perfectly timed, so we could catch train back to be in Tokyo in the afternoon. Lots of grapes and apple orchards in the valley.
