This is a fine walk in that to the right is the sea, and to the left marshes with channels. There is a top path for an overview and a bottom path hugging the waterways ( two bridges) where watching the mullet break the water is of interest too.

Great walk on a sunny day
Oct 2020 • Family
We walked the 1.5 miles shingle spit to the lighthouse and Hurst castle. A beautiful walk on a sunny day and it’s a shame we arrived to late to visit the fortress. We enjoyed watching the kite surfers.

Windy.

Pretty windy and we didn’t manage to make it to the castle. Good walk for the dogs. Walk is about two miles each way and in good weather it would be ok.

Great views
Sep 2020
Walked back along the spit from Hurst Castle to Key Haven. We were lucky with the weather so had great clear views of the Isle of Wight, and The Needles, and also of Key Haven Harbour. The spit is a gravelled footpath and we were fine in walking sandals. Not suitable for wheelchair users, but did see a couple of people on bikes and dragging pushchairs along! [not at the same time I hasten to add;) ] Worth the walk for some fresh air and exercise with the bonus of scenic views.

Lovely walk

An excellent area to take a walk, or to keep stopping and taking in the views. Great views of the Isle of Wight. Recommended.

Saunter along the Spit
Sep 2020
We opted to skip the ferry to the castle and decided to walk the Spit both ways. Now, be warned it's not the easiest of walks. But it's certainly not hard, it just requires some patience. Wear walking shoes! Seek out the 'flattened' bits - that helps! What you will be rewarded with (on a clear day) are lovely views of The Needles and, as you get closer, some lovely views of Hurst Castle. And should you be feeling the heat, well it's a few steps down the slope into the cooling Solent!

Nice walk along the spit, you can see the marshland, some birds and then a walk along the shingle with sea views.

Always a great walk along the Spit to the Castle and back. Hard work on the legs, which is good. Wear proper walking shoes/boots. Great views in all directions. A lovely walk.

Fabulous walk
Aug 2020 • Couples
This is such a fabulous walk along the spit. Highly recommended. Need good trainers and go early enough to be able to visit the castle. One can take a ferry from Keyhaven if you prefer or can not manage walking some distance on the shale. Beautiful views and refreshing walk .
