We hiked many waterfalls while visiting Iceland, but this was probably second favorite. We were there on a beautiful (rare) blue sky day and hiked up to hengifoss. Such a scenic trail, a tad bit steep at the beginning but worth the climb.

The hike to Hengifoss isn't hard, just take you're time up the mountain and you'll be rewarded with a spectacular waterfall. There weren't too many people on the trail mid-July which was nice. I think being off the main tourist ring route it eased up...More

Hengifoss waterfall lies at the side of gravel road 931. It is an impressive stepped waterfall and you can take a steep 2 km hike up to the top. My husband and I returned after the first viewpoint, because it started to rain and the...More

Hengifoss waterfall is at the east of Iceland. We need to park at the road side car park and walk for 2km to reach the waterfall. The climb is not steep, and as we walk further away from the roadside, and every look back gives...More

This is on your way east from Egilsstadir and is a great place to stop. For whatever reason it is not very touristy/busy. The hike is long and steep at times. However, the views are great as you get to see the surrounding areas. As...More

It is a bit of a hike from the parking lot, but the pay off is worth it. The climb allows for multiple views of the falls and surroundings. Another amazing waterfall.

Amazing waterfalls and well worth the climb. About a 1 mile walk up the side of a ravine with a smaller and then much larger waterfall. Return journey much easier as downhill :) Path repairs at the time but this did not detract from the...More

For me this is the best waterfall in Iceland......I have been to most of the named waterfalls but this one is far and away my favourite. 1.5km of uphill walking on a reasonable path takes you up the gorge past a smaller but still dramatic...More

The nearest road is bitumen, so yes, you will be able to get there in a 2WD. From the parking area to the waterfall is a 45 minute walk, up hill.

Locals recommend tourists not driving in winter/ dark months. I'm not sure regarding what the weather conditions will be in march. We visited in July.
