There was not nearly enough time explore this gem of peace and quiet in the desert that is southern Spain.Most visitors to this town go to see the old gold mines but this is a gold mine of botanic wonders in itself and we had a very rewarding time here.

Sometimes, the longer you stay, the better a place gets and the Garden is one of these. Of course, it's a rather dry place - don't expect green lushness here, but during our visit on a lovely May morning, it was at its best. It is much larger than it looks and the displays are all entirely with purpose, demonstrative of various types of plants, trees, conditions and uses. You can wander at will, following a helpful written guide and learn so much about the very things that can surround you in this dry but far from arid area. We had intend to leave sooner than we did, but slowed down, rested and used our eyes, our sense of smell and our brains,so generating a memorable experience. If you have a mobile, a tablet, a camera, any of the appurtenances of modern life, leave them in the hotel or the boot of your car and just take it all in yourself. On our first afternoon, we chose to revisit this Jardin. It heals the soul and reminds you why we are here. The smells in October were better but it is a beautiful place which makes you feel cured.
