Our pilgrimage group visited Santuario di San Michele Arcangelo enroute from San Giovanni Rotondo to Rome. It was worth the extra travel to see this shrine. There are many steps up and down to the cave. There was an elevator but no attendant was available...More

If are a believer it will impress you. Strrange stories about angels in a grotto, great. If not it is an eerie place. I enjoyed the forest Umbra a lot more. This was a disappointing tourist trap

This a 'must see' place if you are visiting this region of Puglia. The Basilica is about two floors down into the rock and is just like a cave. When we visited last week there was a festival in progress and many pilgrims were visiting....More

The Sanctuary of Saint Michael and adjacent sites are extremely unique and enjoyable to see irrespective of your religious affiliation. Although not a top site in most of the travel books, the sanctuary and the town of Monte Sant'Angelo are a "must see" if you...More

Sanctuary in a cavern. Very nice "hidden gem". ANd when you have finished the short visit, it is very pleasant to have a walk in Monte San Michele village, and to get a "panzerotto fritto" in a very small place just nearby (I forgot the...More

Half the beauty of this sanctuary is the walk downstairs towards the cave. Suggestive and surprising setting for a sanctuary.

The cavern of archangel Michael is a real sanctuary. Try to be there either early in the Morning or after 5 pm

The sanctuary is build deep in the ground. You can really feel the presence of spirituality here. Go if you can. Beware of opening and closing times. They close for long lunch periods.

The "must sees" are Matera and the trulli houses in Alberobello. If you get an opportunity to visit the Gargano peninsula, (Vieste), it is also a lovely place to visit.

I recommend also to take the coast road from Barletta, not the toll highway. This April, the road linking the main highway with Manfredonia was in repairs and in very, very bad state. To avoid!
