we saw 3 Quetzal from really close at around 6.30 in the morning on our Tour. If you like to see quatzal, probably one of the most reliable places to go.

This national park isn't too easy to access, due to a single mountain toad being the only route into the Savegre valley. However, you're rewarded with Paramo that's reminiscent of alpine Italy and an incredible variety of colourful birds, including quetzals.

Everybody wants to see the Quetzales so expect to be one of perhaps a hundred. It is a predawn start and it is very cold and often windy at that time of day so take woolly hats, gloves thermals etc. Each guide has his own...More

We got up early in the morning and meet the guide fir an early quetzal watching tour at 5:30 am. We had a chance to observe three quetzals and learn the story and project about it. Once in a lifetime experience!

Went on birding hikes, fantastic! Also scouting around for Tapir. Found tracks and one had been killed by a car earlier in the day, but no sightings.

You may be lucky to see this magnificent bird. Go with a guide as they know the places to look. If you see one it is an unforgettable experience.

The park is dedicated to quetzals, but We didn't find any, for that a guide is needed. Trails are available, but hard to walk because steep.

I have been stoping on our way to San Gerardo to see how the development of the trails is going. To date there is only one short trail and we walked it but it was too wet after the Huricane Net. They do have plans...More

One of the most beautiful and pristine places in Costa Rica! Perfect for birdwatching and not just the quetzales, there's plenty of eagles, hawks, woodpeckers and too many others to be named. There are plenty of viewpoints to take in the sunsets if you're driving,...More

We were at Trogon Lodge, on the road to San Gerardo de Dota, a steep 30 minute drive down from the top of the Inter-American Highway. So, within the park, but on the "strip" with all the hotels (which means one hotel each... More
