This beach has beautiful sand and clear blue water. Waves are good depending on the tide for surfers but is always perfect for a beach day- just watch out for the rocks. It is also close to Lola's which is a great restaurant.

This beach is off the beaten path. Very remote, mostly frequented by surfers. It's absolutely beautiful, but beware of thieves. It is extremely hot and there is very little shade, so you might be tempted to put your things under the bit of shade under...More

AVOID THIS BEACH. IF YOU DO GO, BE VERY CAREFUL. THERE ARE THIEVES. We were excited to check out this beach. We left our hotel in our little rental 4x4 (which you will need to get to the beach). The road to the beach is...More

great surfing and beach. I would choose this beach over tamarindo any day. it's much more quiet, so not so many options for food. but Lola's and Mauna Loa are better than most restauants in tamarindo anyways.

The beach is beautiful, but getting there from Tamarindo was the worst driving experience I have ever been in.

Beautiful beach , uncrowded with great waves. Our surfing instructor from youarecostarica took us here when Tamarindo go too crowded -- great alternative.

Only had drinks, but the atmosphere is amazing. This is more or less the only game in town I am aware of. Wish I could have stayed longer.

just check out Avellanas, great food, awesome vibes. This beach is endless, mangroves and palmtrees for shade, no big hotels, simply nature

Great spot for surf offering various breaks. Overhead outside break at Little Hawaii or snapping shore break and in between. Take a cooler. Expensive drinks availble at a small bar. Usually a local with cold coconut water fresh for a $1. No bathrooms. Good shade...More

This was a good beach for finding shells and surfing. It was south of Tamarindo and was much less crowded and touristy. There was shade, but you have to drive down a really bumpy unpaved road to get there.

Came here with my brother and a friend. To get there some complicated earth roads. The beach is very nice with a lot of waves for surfing

Special beach for those special waves to surf. And watch the sunset in an incrible way. It is approximately 20 minutes from tamarind beach

Not sure about the Zip line. There is not much at Playa Avelenas. The airport is about 1 hour 45 mins away, and the roads are not all paved into the beach area. I would definitely stop for groceries on the way in, to... More

Sorry if you already got your answer. If you’re passing by any of the major towns like Tamarindo or Santa Cruz, stock up there. Near Tamarindo at Villa Real is a great fruit stand. The two supermarkets near Villa Real north... More

I don't know . We were staying in Tamarindo and drove around. If you stay in Tamarindo you can walk to the beaches.
