This was just a hilltop fort from 1794- 1823 with only some of the walls left. However it is at the top of the mountain and you can drive up most of the way. Still, to wander it all will take some work, the ridge stretched for over a mile and you should walk it all. The climb from the parking area is like about 10 to 20 flights of stairs. Of course you can walk up the front face rather than drive around the back but you better be in pretty good shape. Absolutely gorgeous views as it is overlooking a mountain pass. Looking back towards Burgos you see farmland stretched seemingly forever. The town of Pancorbo is below, a quaint village with some pretty houses and a church. I stumbled across the treasure while driving from Madrid to Paris. It was dark as I drove through the pass looking for a hotel for the night. I ended up staying in the next town Miranda de Ebro, but the rock formation I saw at night were so interesting I went back in the morning. There is only a small sign and a road leading up the hill, off the secondary highway. You drive up a mile or two and then have to walk up 2-300 feet to the beginning. It will be much cooler than the valley floor and windy so wear layers. There is not much impressive as far as manmade ruins but it is the view and the feeling of the place that is amazing
