Castillo de Xivert is a Middle-aged templar castle located in Irta Mountains, in the surroundings of Alcalà de Xivert, in Castelló Province. It was built in the 10 and 11th Century by Muslims, but after it was remodelled by Templar Warriors. Nowadays, it is a very nice well-preserved fortification, which is open to public. From here, you can see very nice views of the mountains and surroundings. Also, nowadays you can see the main wall and some towers. Very good visit. However we could not do the guided visit, which I hope to do in the future.

Today, September 6, we have been on the guided tour, and it has been a very pleasant and recommended experience.
The truth is that the guide (Rafa) makes everything more enjoyable, telling 4000 thousand years of history in 21⁄2 hours. And making us get in and live that story.
Magnificent experience

Ok, not one for being feint of heart but if you are, well, the journey up the mountain-side may be classed as an extreme sport. The wife had her eyes closed most of the way up but I assure you that if Castles/Templar Knights are even low on your list, then this is one Castle to visit, well worth the drive up. Of course you can cycle up or even walk! A lot of work has been carried out by the local authorities with a lot more to be carried out to improve the route and your visit. There is nothing that can be improved where the scenic views are concerned, absolutely stunning! The ingenuity to build this structure on the apex of a mountain is staggering.

An absolute gem worth the tricky drive up. A must for culture- and history enthusiasts. Not the best maintained site but plenty of fascinating explorations await.
Lovely pine tree trails and plenty of shade and room for picnic. Views are breathtaking.

Lovely little place. Car park right near it. Maybe a 5 minute (if that) walk up to the castle. Signs dotted about in Spanish, French and English.
You can have a wonder around the castle and enter the castle. A lot of history here was rather amazed by it. Or you can park at the bottom of the hill and have a nice hike up. Either way nice to have a choice. Picnic area. Take your rubbish away with you no facilities.
Even bigger bonus it’s totally free. Even the car park !

This castle stands majestically above Alcala de Xivert. The road off the main highway is NOT well marked, and maybe thats a good thing. Google Maps will help. You ride uphill for a long long time, part of the way on a dirt road that is not especially well maintained. And then you come to a spot where you are looking down upon this magical Templar ruin, situated on a point on the side of the mountain. Climbing around the ruin is just as fun as the ride up the mountain. The views are superb, the history rich and amazing. Lets hope this place never becomes commercialized.

Tricky road to navigate always hoping not to meet any on coming cars. A lot of work has been done and still a lot more to be done. A fantastic castle with good signage to explain all the different parts. Fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and sea. A very interesting pueblo just below the castle you can explore. Definitely worth a visit if you’re not afraid of driving up a tricky mountain road.

No fee, short walk from parking area. Some dirt road driving but nothing major. Minimal information posted but enough to get the history of this fortress. Worth the experience and the view.

We went on a trip with an E-step to the castle from Alcossebre. The trip was great. The castle and its ruins and the view were also marvellous.
Highly recommend!

We decided to take to the van and have an afternoon out and we weren't sorry we visited here. Yes the roads are bumpy and unkempt but nothing too hair raising and the drive through all the groves is lovely. There are several parking spaces and then a short walk up to the castle which is in ruins but under renovation it would seem. There is quite a lot of information in English but even if there weren't its worth a visit for the views alone.
