Tthis was my favorite site that I visited on our Lower Danube river Cruise and I had never even heard of the place. This is not to be missed if you are in Bulgaria. The rock formations are incredible and the fortress walls are massive....More

There was no English guided tour when we visited the place, but there were informational panels. The place is so amazing and so unbelievable, you must visit it!

Despite starting as a rainy day the weather picked up by time we arrived. The climb on the uneven surface and steps was really worth it, fantastic views and unusual rock formations. I recommend you buy something from the market stalls at the bottom, it’s...More

Belogradchik fortress is near the town of Belogradchik and is built in and amongst the famous “Belogradchik Rock” formations. It was built during Roman times, and the local rock formations make up much of the walls. There are several levels, and the walk up to...More

Wow like a fairy tale. The only bad thing was the person at the desk - she was selling the tickets to the fortress - she was terrible in every way. VERY RUDE.

We went to the Fortress as an excursion from our river cruise docked in Vidin. The tour was wrongly described as a hike, but as the coach parked right outside the Fortress gates, this was misleading. The lower ward is easily accessible to all, the...More

This is an ancient fortress with magnificent views from the top. This does require a bit of walking and climbing about 160 steps up basically ladders. But the views are worth it and the history is thrilling.

This Roman turned Bulgarian turned Ottoman fortress, built around a magnificent volcanic series of columns (lacoliths if I recall my college geology) is worth a stop. Check out the really find fortress and climb the towers if you can. The final steps are very steep...More

If you're afraid of heights, don't go near the edges of the rocks, because they may freak you out. It is however totally worth it! The stairs are pretty steep, but are secured enough.
