Safety concerns
Dec 2019 • Family
Parents with small children should take note that there are no restraints or safety belts of any sort, unlike chair lifts in other countries. After you sit on the shallow seat, there is nothing to stop a child slipping off, from quite a height into the forest below. The view is, of course, breathtaking, but we will be taking the cable car next time!

Fun way to descend

Fun way to descend Mt Takao. Cheap and much easier on the knees, plus you get stunning views. Just don't fall out 😂

Always take the chairlift...!
Apr 2019
Going up Mt. Takao, best to take chairlift. Biggest challenge is not the ride, but the staircase climb to the chairlift station. Ride is safe, secured, fun and affords u panoramic view versus crowded train. Halfway up, Smile at the photographer and purchase photo once up there. Not expensive.

Overcrowded in Nov
There were too many people on a saturday. We had to wait for 40 mins just to take the tram up the mountain and another 30 mins to get down later. Pls check before you go.

Fun way to travel

The lines for the cable car were too long so we took the chair lift both ways. The view coming down was awesome. Getting on and off is easy and lots of help is provided. Much better than walking.

Better than the Cablecar
Nov 2018 • Family
I really enjoyed the trip up and down on the chairlift. To my mind, it beats the cablecar hands down and there was no line for the chairlift whereas the cable car line was huge. There is no safety gate on the chairlift and some could find this a little off-putting. The scenery is stunning and the lift travels over some very steep sections which afford great views. Adults 480yen one-way children half-price.

Great way to ascend Mt Takao - kids loved it.

Great way to go up and down the mountain. Takes about 15 minutes. Buy ticket before you join the line. There are photographers on the way up and down that can take your digital photo for pick up at a cost when you return. Warning: weekends are VERY busy and wait times can be in excess of 1 hour. Also pay attention to operating hours...last ride is around 4.30 pm. Miss it and you are walking down! If possible go during the week.

Slow ride in the open

We took the Mt Takao chairlift up and down Mt Takao on a cool autumn day with perfect weather. Not much view as tall trees were found on both sides. Along the way, some cameraman would snap your picture and you can purchase the photo when you disembark at the station. No obligation to buy. We preferred the chairlift rather than the cable car as we could enjoy the cool breeze brushing against our faces.

Enjoy fresh air and nature
It was a real cool day to be hiking up Mt Takao. We used the 6th trail up. It was quite an interesting hike but it was overcrowded as it was a public holiday. Right on top we felt like we were at Shibuya or Shinjuku. All the people flooded everywhere. Would have been better if it was a week day. We took the chair lift down as we did not want to hurt our knees. Weather was great, as we could still see the view well.

Go down rather than up!
Sep 2018 • Solo
The scenery is stunning on the way down so take the cable car up and the chairlift on the way down. There's no harness but there is some netting at the high areas. I'd highly recommend going here in September!
