First-rate winery experience
Dec 2019
Altydgedacht Winery offers an unpretentious, relaxing wine-tasting experience with personal service from very knowledgeable staff. It appears to be one of the less-visited in the Durbanville area but deserves to be better known; it offers two unusual varietals (Gewürztraminer and Barbera) that are well worth trying. They also have a children's play area / obstacle course and a zipwire for those too young for the wine tasting.

Disappointed
Oct 2018 • Friends
The setting is perfect so we do have lunch on the odd occasion, but this will be the last time! Service was shocking we waited for 90 minutes for our food. Ordered BFA burger, bacon FETA and avo, we got a grated mix of cheddar and mozzarella. Wasn't bad but it's not what we ordered and no apology. Hand cut chips ice cold, soggy and oily. The worst was the lovely white wine was room temperature as was the bottled water. On a cool day perhaps not an issue but was 28 yesterday! The 2 waiters were friendly but worked off their feet. Shame really but won't be going back.

Casual afternoon visit... Been there, done that.....

Living in the area a year now and visited almost all the wine farms in the area, we decided to visit Altydgedacht today. I did the winetasting {R40/5 wines} and my hubby had a craft beer and then requested a glass of red. R38 a glass.... Not available... But their Barbera was... at R55 a glass! Wine by the bottle was also so expensive. One would expect a special price seeing that you are sitting on their farm, enjoying their wines. We really enjoyed the Mezze dip platter at R95 and the chicken wrap looked really nice too. I can now say I visited Altydgedacht. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!

What a fall
Aug 2018 • Couples
We used to frequent this place often, used to be a regular favourite.

We visited recently for a breakfast, small menu, not an issue, but when 40% of menu is unavailable or being substituted you know they in trouble.

RSA breakfast could not be served, no boerewors, we have a great deli down the road and multiple other suppliers of great boerewors. I heard another table could not order their breakfast as no fresh fruit available, same as I said before, a little effort and it could be solved.

Lastly coffee was terrible and service iffy, won't be back

Not great!
Jul 2018 • Family
We visited on a Sunday, the tables are too simple for a wine farm, food was not great, we waited for an hour for a few wraps, the potato wedges tasted like it was reheated, not impressed at all!
The wine is great, I’ve had a tasting here before and the wine can really be recommended!

Close to suburbia

Situated round the corner from my parents house, we visited the restaurant for lunch during the week. Our food platter was divine (with the standard includes- blue cheese, olives , cold meat etc). Blanc de noir was over priced in my opinion - R155 a bottle!

Rustic with attentive service. Not too happy that the Service charge which was automatically added to our table of 5.

R40 for a tasting of 5 wines - was lovely.

Great Wine Tasting
May 2018 • Couples
We had an excellent wine tasting at Altydgedacht. The history was fascinating to hear and they make some wines that are quite unusual for South Africa - like Barbiera. We particularly enjoyed the Viognier they make, definitely worth including in your tasting.

We didn't go to the restaurant so I can't speak to the quality of that, although it looked like a good summer spot (outdoors).

The staff were friendly and the parking easy.

Should be Better
Jan 2018 • Friends
Well, we went To Altydgedacht because it was the only winery we could find in the area that was open for lunch on a Monday and I really don’t think it was worth the effort.
The setting was poor with basic tables and chairs in a sort of canvas extension. The food was mediocre with a pie, chips and a very basic salad.
On the plus side the tasting room had some interesting history.
And there were good play areas for children.
But I won’t be going back.....

Quality is going backwards!!
Nov 2017 • Couples
We have visited Altydgedacht today for the fourth time, but this is the last. From previous reviews they can't put venison pot pie on offer, and today we experience the same. I had the Big Daddy burger with salad (first the waiter brought an enamel cup of sloppy fries). The fried onion rings were soaked in oil and were paper-thin. My other half had a platter, but it also was not up to standard as the same one ordered before. The prices for all the items have increased, but the QUALITY has gone down. Sorry, this place will not see us again.
