Was an early start to a beautiful day. There was an information session before went on the hike. Pretty, colorful, damp and lots of fresh air.

We did the 9km forest hike from the Harkerville forest station - having been advised that the hike was only about 4kms... Hmmm. So, having expected a gentle amble through the forest, we found, instead, that we were obliged to put on some speed, given we'd only started at 3pm! The walk is suitable for reasonably fit walkers and takes one through some lush forest, with a few easy descents, and then back up again. The hike follows a circular path.
Towards the end, the trail is badly marked, so we added an extra kilometre on before we realised we'd branched onto a different trail...
Next time we'll start in the morning, so we can linger!

It is possible to visit this part of the forest by foot, bicycle or by taking a 4x4 tour as part of a guided group. The tour is very informative and normal vehicles can also partake, as long as they have good ground clearance. The guide tells many stories of the forest which would otherwise be missed. Make sure to visit the museum at the end, it is highly informative about the forest elephants and the way of life for the woodcutters. The whole family can participate, recommended that children must be over 8 years old to follow.

The amazing tour through the Diepwalle section of the beautiful Knysna Forest, expertly guided by Dennis in 2-way radio contact at all times, is one of the must-do adventures in the Knysna/Plett area (providing of course that your vehicle has good ground clearance). A vast selection of indigenous (& a few alien) trees, beautiful ferns and amazing fungi under the overhanging umbrellas are a sight to behold. The 4 1/2 hour trip was rounded off with an excellent traditional lunch prepared by Tannie Clara.

Just lovely to sit and be calm with something to eat and drink in a picnic basket. A wonderful place for a walk in nature.
