A truly magnificent beach
Sep 2021 • Couples
Walking on the Paternoster beach is considered a top 10 activity in this quaint town. I’d say it’s a must do. I was there for two days and did 4 beach walks. Even in the cold wind - just wear a beanie and jacket. This beach is just magnificent. It’s wide, it’s beautiful - I saw birds, including a pelican, you could just walk for miles.

Clean and quiet

A lovely uncrowded beach (weather permitting). But if you prefer sunbathing, this might not be for you - perhaps limited to December "wind free" days.

A quaint little fishing village
Aug 2021
With the wild flowers fully in bloom this was an amazing visit to Paternoster!

Having never been to Paternoster before, I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was most plesantly surprised.
The drive there was scenic, through the flowering yellow canola fields; past the West Coast National Park covered in carpets of wild flowers in full bloom, swathes of yellow, white and orange as far as the eye can see.
Arriving in Paternoster was no less picturesque...white-washed houses with their blue or red shutters, and little sailing boats dotted all around, filled with wild flowers.
Our accomodation was less than 200m from the beach, with a spectacular view.
Long morning and evening walks along the beach, dotted with mussel shells, are soothing for the soul....however, swimming is not for the fainthearted as the water is icy.
A definite must if you want to relax.

Beautiful Atlantic coast fishing village.
Jun 2021
A beautiful part of the South African Atlantic coastline and which is steeped in fishing folklore and history. It has become a trendy place with many of the traditional beach fishing cottages having been converted into luxurious holiday homes by well-heeled moguls from the big cities. Plenty of lovely and some superb restaurants grace the beach and rock coast area.

Take care while interacting with the real local locals. There is a massive disparity in wealth distribution here - with the super rich living cheek by jowl with subsistence fisher folk and their families trying to eak out a meager living from fruits of the sea. You are pretty sure to be approached by hawkers selling crayfish (a local lobster) - and the laws governing sale, possession and transport are strict and seasonal, locals told us. There is also crime of other types such as home break-ins locals warned us.

All in all a beautiful place. Enjoy.

Road Trip May 2021

Have always wanted to visit Paternoster and boy it didn't disappoint. We had fabulous beachfront accommodation with amazing views across the bay and ocean. We had awesome food and service at the two restaurants we visited. Need to go back for longer than two days.

Lovely stroll

Don't miss a walk along the beach with the fishing boats in and the local children swimming in the freezing water!
Great atmosphere.
But a little dirty with rock graffiti spoiling the beauty of the place. There are cleaner beaches and coves to relax and unwind on.

Wide and clean, what a treasure.
Dec 2020
Strolling along the beach was such a privilege. It is a wide clean stretch of beach, the sea is calm and beautiful. Closer to town you can watch the fishing boats that come in, and buy fresh fish from some of the fishermen.
