Charismatic offerings amaze
Mar 2020
This was one of the first walks we took and we thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the loving leavings at the graves of the ancients, and not so ancients. This certainly has a mixed bag of symbolism; naturalism, Rapa Nui cultural, Christian elements all expressed in reverance.

Unique Tombstones
Dec 2019 • Family
This cemetery is located at a short walking distance from Tahai on the way to Hanga Roa. Certainly worth stopping en route to view some of the very unique tombstones which are adorned with motifs that combine Christian and Rapa Nui iconography. The Pacific Ocean in the background makes it even more memorable.

Short stroll from Anu Tahai - interesting
Mar 2020
Beautiful location beside the ocean, definitely worth a look. Symbolic, quirky and cheeky. Viewed from the perimeter, some brought a smile, others a tear.

“Beautiful and symbolic in nature”
Feb 2020
An easy downhill walk from Tahai on the way to Hanga Roa, this Rapa Nui cemetery is certainly worth a visit and respectful wander. With a beautiful sea view, this place embodies the symbiotic blend of both Christianity and Polynesian culture and religion. It is so interesting to see a mixture of both Rapa Nui and Christian symbols like a Moai holding a cross to imitation Rongo Rongo tablets. There are several historical Rapa Nui figures buried there. There is no problem wandering around the grave sites remembering of course to act in a respectful manner. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit there!

This is an interesting cemetery that is worth a look. Very close to one of the Moai sites so easy to at least take a peek at it.

Worthwhile a stroll through
Jan 2020
This is a small cemetery, no longer used for new burials, next to the ocean. It is very close to Ahu Tahai, and has some quite different tombstones and memorials. Well worth a quick look around.

A very different cemetery
Jan 2020 • Couples
It is interesting to see both Catholic and ancient folklore symbolism on the same headstone. Great carvings AND an ocean view.

Eerie dead in the Pacific boom
Mar 2019
A picture place, all in bright primary colours. Nothing - and all - to do with the island's history. You stand there and watch the headstones and the waves, incessantly breaking below.

Interesting and unique!
Feb 2020
I'm not into the cementery visiting thing, but I passed the Rapa Nui one everyday while walking around that region. I found it colorful, unique. Being near the sea gave me an instant sensation of calm and I think that's a beautiful place to be one's last home. It's very near the Mirador Tahai.
