Hiking up Table Mountain was on top of our list of things to do and we headed to the Platteklip Trail starting point as it is supposedly the “easy” trail. The cable cars were under maintenance so hiking up was our only option. With the...More

It's basically a staircase of very uneven stairs that go pretty much straight up. Our guide (you don't need a guide; you cannot get lost) told us she had taken up a young man that had no use of his arms, i.e., anyone could do...More

With about 60 hiking routes ascending Table Mountain, Platteklip Gorge is the most direct, popular & fastest route. It took us 1hr 45min to complete with breaks. But don't let that fool you. You need to be fit. You gain 900m elevation in 3km walking...More

We’re a reasonably fit couple but this walk was still pretty challenging in the heat of summer. It’s not a smooth path, more like big steps formed from boulders. Take plenty of water and your camera, its very rewarding when you get to the top....More

The Platteklip Gorge is something that you must do when you visit Cape Town - it is a fairly strenuous goal - but well worth the effort. It usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on fitness levels.

As a relatively fit mid-thirties man this was a great climb to do. After a walk up to the start of the ascent you realise that its very direct up the gorge, made up[ of some large steps, boulders and rocks [think taking two to...More

This is a deceiving endless rock/ gorge climb. Carry lots of water and snacks on hot days. Great that the path for hikers is clearly demarcated! Distract yourself by enjoying the views and trying to get the best selfie!

As a reasonably fit female in my late fifties I expected this to be challenging and it was, but only because it is quite steep in parts and not straightforward path or steps. However, if you are reasonably fit and well prepared (layers as it...More

Platteklip gorge presents one of the easier ways to climb Table Mountain. Sadly, some people seem unable to take their litter home and we were saddened to see a lot of trash - plastic bottles, paper tissues etc, strewn along the trail to the top.

As much as I encourage exposing children to new experiences, table mountain is still a mountain and thus a dangerous place for children. Platteklip Gorge is far more strenuous than Lions Head and I would never take a small... More
