Afternoon hike up Platteklip
Apr 2021
Scenic hike up the mountain. It is well marked and well established. I wish people would take their rubbish with them though, we picked up quite a bit. I would not recommend the hike for unfit people, it is short but steep.

Great Hike
Feb 2020
This is the most popular route up the mountain by foot and the views are spectacular. Allow a good two hours even if you're reasonably fit and the advice now is to not go up alone but join an informal group. Great sense of achievement when you get there. Walk down or take the cable car.

Fantastic hike up the mountain! Took two hours to the top, harder than I thought so basic fitness required.

Not for the fainthearted!

If you do not know your fitness level think twice. Take lots of water and start early. If you want to come down with the cable car you can if it is open.

Very challenging but worth every moment
Feb 2020
It's described as the quickest route to the top. It's clearly the most direct, but the suggested times are applicable only to fit hikers in their 20s-30s. As an agile pensioner, it took me more than three hours including rest-stops, but that was in temperatures above 30 degrees.

Even when the cable car carpark is crowded, there's plenty of space at the entrance to the trail (but don't forget you're going to have to walk back here from the cable car if you choose the easy way down).

Great views all the way up and spectacular at the top, assuming you choose a clear day. Definitely recommend walking up and cable car down, especially for anyone who's had any knee problems at all. The ticket machine for the trip down isn't easy to find - it's ticked away on the RH side of the building as you queue.

The route consists mainly of large rock steps, with minimal shade until you're near the summit. Take plenty of water! The last section is very worn, but a "via ferrata" chain handrail actually makes this the easiest part of the hike.

Welcome shade in the cafe at the top, crowded with tour groups. On a Monday afternoon in summer, we had to queue for 40 minutes to get down (R200 fee), but the revolving cable car is a nice touch.

Incredible hike
Dec 2019
Amazing hike leading to the top of Table Mountain. The gorge in front of you is majestic and when you turn and you see the view behind you it's just breathtaking. Loved every minute of it. You have to have some sort of fitness level to be able to complete the hike in a decent time. It took us about 1.40 hours but it could take a lot longer if you stop too much. It's a hike, so use appropriate shoes, no flip flops. Try to go as early as you can in the morning and bring lots of water with you!

Great hike but more difficult than described
Dec 2019 • Couples
This hike is awesome, but is sold as the ‘easiest’ hike on Table Mountain, and maybe that’s true but it’s definitely not easy. Start early, sunrise or shortly after - if it’s a sunny / hot day you are in direct sun the entire hike without really any shade coverage. Bring 1 liter of water / person then fill up your bottle or buy more at the top. Eat before or bring snacks .... there’s also food at the top. This is a strenuous hike, a constant uphill and not suitable for children or the elderly. This took us about 4 hours including an hour spent at the top; and we are two people in our 30s who are very active.

The best hike on Table Mountain. Challenging but absolutely acceptable for anyone who is afraid of edges and very popular which makes it very safe. Best climb early, then breakfast on the top of the mountain and catc the cable car down. What a pleasure. Everyone in good moods, healthy exercise and the views are exceptional. Not to be missed. #exceptionaltablemountain #capetownrocks

What a hike
Dec 2019 • Couples
So if you don’t want to wait in the Q’s at table mountain then do a hike.
• Not for the unfit.
• You need good shoes please
• Don’t do it mid afternoon
• Take snack and loads of water
• take your time its not a race.

Views are good, but do start early, and try to cover as much as you can before the sun is up; take a lot of water with you- it gets hot. And do be wary of tour operators who overcharge (ZAR900!!!). Enjoy the view!
