I was in Cape Town in March 2022 and was determined to hike Table Mountain and found Like 2 Hike. I received a quick response from Maretha about the route I was initially thinking about doing.
Unfortunately, the wind was too heavy on the day that I initially wanted to hike Table Mountain, so instead Maretha suggested a hike up Lion's Head to see the sunset and the full moon rise (something I'd not even considered!) I did a private hike with Christoph and it was incredible! He was very knowledgeable about the geology and local flora. I was a little bit nervous about the scrambling and using staple and chain, but he talked me through it and I felt more confident as the hike went on. I got to the top and saw the most spectacular sunset over Camps Bay, followed by seeing the full moon rise on the other side of Cape Town. Christoph knew that the top of Lion's Head would get bus, so he took me down to a ledge further down with a good view to avoid the crowds coming down.
After my hike up Lion's Head Christoph and Maretha suggested that I take on the India Venster route up Table Mountain with the two of them and it was incredible! I was nervous about taking on a route with staples, and exposure to heights, but with encouragement from Christoph and Maretha I was out at ease from the start, throughout the entire experience they took safety very seriously so I felt at ease. Christoph and Maretha do this route quite regularly, so they know which parts may be challenging etc. They've both got fantastic knowledge of the mountain, and the wildlife - we were even lucky enough to spot a black eagle and were rewarded at the top by protea's in full bloom!
On both hikes Christoph and Maretha took snacks, and took plenty of photos of me on the hike. If you're planning on going up either Lion's Head or Table Mountain I would definitely recommend going with Like 2 Hike. Having a private tour meant that I could go at my own pace and was very reasonably priced for the amount of time they spent with me and for the effort they put in to giving me the best experience they could.
In short Like 2 Hike made my experience of hiking Table Mountain even better than I thought it would be - thanks both for the fantastic experience!

What a lovely review. Thank you, Alex! We are so happy that you enjoyed both the hikes and it was excellent that you were open minded about the routes. How perfect that we could arrange the sunset hike on Lion's Head, despite the wind on Table Mountain.
We are also happy that you took on our suggestion to do the India Venster route, which was harder than the route you requested, but certainly well within your capabilities.
It was lovely to hike with you and we enjoyed our conversations as well as to see how you managed to climb some tricky pitches. The best is of course to know that you enjoyed both hikes and that you were interested in everything we told you about the area, birds, geology and flora.
Wishing you many more happy returns to Cape Town!

I had booked three private hikes with Maretha for my short time in Cape Town. Thought I had set my mind on certain hikes I was open to suggestions.
Lucky with the weather my first hike was with Brigitte. We set off early and watched the sun rise at Kloof Corner. When at the start of the planned route I found that chains were not my thing we decided together to do the India Venster route up Table Mountain instead. Challenging for my short legs at times Brigitte talked me through these bits and we spent a happy morning on the Mountain chatting about fauna, life and other every day things. We watched the first cable cars of the day and I posed for a photo at the venster all that time enjoying the surroundings, the tranquillity and each others company and having a little work out along the way.
My second hike was up Lions Head for sunset with Maretha. It seemed like we had known each other for ever and we spent the hike up ladders and staples talking about everything that popped into our heads. Time flew by and after having sumited Lion's Head we went to a lower ledge to watch the sun set away from the crowds and a beautiful sunset and evening it was. Decending in semi darkness and by torch light made this a special experience.
My third hike was once again with Brigitte and should have been a mountain crossing. The weather forecast was not too clever for the day and once again we set off with an open mind to what we would do. Another beautiful sunrise and after a while on the Contour Path we opted to hike up the Skeleton Gorge route with some easy bits but also a number of ladders and steep bits which kept me alert and entertained. Emerging at the top of the route the clouds had moved in and it was an eerie atmosphere walking up to the Hely-Hutchinson Reservoir in the mist. From there we headed to the Constantia Nek track which we took to walk off the mountain almost dodging all the rain. This was a bit longer than planned but none the less enjoyable route and it was the experience along the way rather than being on top of a mountain which made this hike special. After we decided to drive to Kalk Bay and end the hike in the rather special Olympia café. Thank you to Maretha and Brigitte to make this happening for me in the short time I spent in Cape Town and for being so knowledgeable and such good company. Hiking up both mountains off the beaten track was something I always had wanted to do.

It is so rare for us to get people who book multiple hikes with us during one holiday. I will remember our Lion's Head hike for a long time. So happy we could make these memories together. You make life interesting and your positive energy is energising! May we meet again.

My friend and I booked a Table Mountain hike with Maretha and had the best experience! She took us up the India Venster route, and was great about sharing her deep knowledge about the plants and animals along the route (including what to avoid), as well as keeping us safe as we went up the trickier scrambling sections. She also took great pics along the way. I would highly recommend Like 2 Hike for anyone interested in hiking Table Mountain - and after doing it myself, I can attest to the importance of going up with a guide! It would be very easy to get lost or injured otherwise. If you're looking for a challenging but deeply enjoyable experience, book with Maretha!

The India Venster is always a winning route. It was great to guide you up the mountain and we certainly did have lots of fun together. When the clients listen to the advice, it makes the tricky parts easier. Thanks for your lovely review!

I am regularly walking the usual, accessible trails on Table Mountain, but always wanted to climb deeper into the hills and explore more.
With the help of Christoph and Maretha,of Like2hike,I was able to do this fantastically beautiful trail that is inaccessible to the general public.
We went to climb Orange Kloof, Disa Gorge. It was guickly apparent to me the beauty and quietness of the trail,no city noise ,only us and nature, with Maretha,Christoph, and the Mountain.
Christoph explained the trail ahead of us before we started and off we went.I felt comfortable all the way, even on the difficult and slippery part of the climb,as they assisted me with these awkward spots.
Both of them are very knowledgeable about the route, history and plants. It was a fantastic experience .
Thank you for both of you.

There's no better way to accompany a tour up Table Mountain: The knowledgeable and expert support during climbing passages brought us less experienced hikers safely to the top - with breathtaking views! Maretha and Christoph did a great job, including homemade hummus and a great breakfast. Plus a lot of facts about the history of Cape Town and everything worth knowing about fauna and flora. I would do it again anytime!

Maretha is a fantastic mountain hike guide! We hiked up India Venster and it was just amazing. She knows the routes backwards, makes one feel very safe and has the patience to adjust to all levels of fitness :)

What a wonderful team to guide you up the mountain! Every step and stone of the way was an enjoyment initiated by lovely Rita and Christoph including home made food, lots of helping hands, vast amount of knowledge amount flora, fauna and history as well an non-exhaustible list of recipes to make in an air fryer ;)

I had a great experience hiking Table Mountain with Maretha and Christoph! They were quick to respond by email and suggested a route based on my interests that turned out to be beautiful. They were great company during the hike and very thoughtful, bringing snacks and taking photos. Also extremely knowledgeable about the vegetation and geology of the area!

We had an amazing experience hiking Table Mountain with Maretha and Christoph in March! Thank god we had them as hosts in Cape Town and they offered us to show us one of the most beautiful sides in South Africa - besides the typical tourists zones. They were such knowledgeable guides for us and they took care of us (especially me, cause I’ve been pregnant). We would highly recommend them! Wish you all the best!

It was also a great pleasure for us to have you as guests and to take you up one of the least known routes on Table Mountain! You were great getting up the difficult pitches, even though you were pregnant! We would love to show you a new side of this spectacular mountain on your next visit, when you will hopefully be coming as a family!
All the best for your winter ahead. Hope to see you soon in sunny South Africa!

I've always wanted to climb table mountain, but I've never been adventurous enough to attempt the route myself. I contacted like2hike, and they immediately made me feel at ease when I told them about my various fears (snakes, spiders and height, to name but a few). Not being the fittest person on this planet, my guide Maretha made sure that the climb was paced to my needs. Maretha pointed out some blister bushes to avoid, and showed me ideal foot and hand holds for difficult to climb areas. I reached the top of table mountain feeling very satisfied that I managed to overcome my fears. Personally, I do not like overly chatty and pushy guides. Maretha's guidance was just perfect. Thank you Like2Hike!

Thanks for booking with us Elaine! It was such a pleasure taking you up the mountain and certainly a hike to remember. Although it was your first time scrambling, you were fantastic! Hope you will be back for a different route one day.
