About
The Himeville Museum and Fort is both a historical site (the old fort, and prison) as well as a well-kept local history museum. , Each of the rooms is either a room in the house, representing the era, or it is dedicated to the life and times of the area: the prison, the telephone exchange, the school: the farming implements of the time. What makes this museum different is that it also represents the varieites of communities in the area: from the original inhabitants, the first people of South Africa, the Khoi/San with local caves able to be visited to see their representations there, through to the settlers and other people of the wider area, to the fauna and flora, clothing and the kitchens of the day: Open garden courtyard in the middle of the fort, shaded, and a bench to rest on - this is a representative and diverse museum that has something of interest to everyone, young and old, local and from all over the globe.

Wide range of artifacts that will bring back fond memories for anyone who has spent time on a farm in their youth. Very helpful and friendly curator. Needed more time!

What a pleasant surprise. A quaint museum lovingly maintained and very informative. It laid out interestingly for both adults and children. A must if you visit Himville or Underberg. This museum is funded purely on donations and we felt it definitely deserves our support. Loved the history of the rock art.

For such a tiny town, this museum was excellent, and showed the history of Himeville. They had some very interesting pieces. No charge - just a donation if you wish

This museum is certainly worth seeing.
It showcases the very interesting history of the area.
The exhibits are in very good condition with full explanations attached to each one.
The place is very neat and tidy the lady in the front office is very friendly.
It is not often that you see something like this in a small village.

We were visiting the area and were looking for an activity and decided to go visit the museum. It did not look like much from the outside and we didn't expect to spend more than 5 mins but ended up staying almost 2 hours. Such a quaint and well maintained museum that really immerses you into how the community lived in the 1800s onwards. Neat displays and a cool way to show the young ones how tough life was in the good old days... definitely worth a visit
