The castle ruins in Hagi are not to be missed. Hagi is nicely set up for tourism so the sites are easy to find and parking is abundant. When first arriving at the ruins I instantly thought to myself, this castle must have been huge! The grounds are bigger then other castles I've seen around Japan, it would have been spectacular to see it in its prime. You cross the moat to enter, there is a ticket counter, prices are very cheap. But honestly, you can walk around the left and enter the ruins without paying, but as an honest traveler, I paid the fee and explored the ruins. The grounds are beautiful, lush green this time of year. There is a small temple and a few other structures throughout the ruins. Afterwards, walk the park and ocean nearby.

When the word ruins appear, basically you expect to see nothing, because ruins meaning the remnants of a building in this instance. But walking from the old castle town, and since this is located next to the sea, the view is just fantastic, and I came here almost close to the sunset hours, hence it was a superb feeling.

The main castle building is long ago gone. But the moat, main ramparts and essential layout are still there. Now it as much a spectacular historical park as a it is a castle. A very peaceful place to wander around. Beautifully maintained. Be sure to do the hike to the ruins/defenses on the top of Mt Shizuki (a "National Treasure" of Japan) just 750 metres each way. Also take in the shrine and the east garden. All round a real gem.

Only the foundation stones remain as it was taken down. It is more like a peaceful park with watery moats and forests. Only beach goers are there. Didn’t see a soul at the castle on the late morning visit. No one at the park inside either. There are some steps up to see views of the beach nearby. Park is 200 yen but it is free to roam around.

If you like atmosphere and exploring mysterious locales away from the tourist hordes, this is the place for you. A word to the wise - bug spray is highly recommended, especially if you’re planning to hike to the top of the mountain. The ruins of the castle are picturesque and lovely, and the reconstructed buildings are definitely worth a visit. But the real highlight for me was the hidden contemporary sculpture park, accessible from the main ruins by veering right soon after entering. How is this site not better known?! A must for photographers or contemporary art enthusiasts—a beautiful sculpture park without the crowds.

Nothing much cause you are really visiting the ruins of Hagi Castle. Located north of Hagi next to the sea. Lucky its cherry blossom season. So we enjoyed some flowers viewing. Otherwise it will be a very non fruitful trip.

Lovely place to walk in, despite the winter (non-)foliage, for taking in the views as well as the old architecture within it. It is historically significant, being the site of the old Hagi Castle.

This is one of my favorite places and is absolutely one of the best places when the cherry blossoms are out. Once an extensive castle now it is a pleasant walk among ruins.
