One of only 12 original castles left in Japan. Nice gates, walls, some buildings and a small 3-story tower (keep). 200-yen to enter the tower where you take off your shoes and put on slippers to walk the tower interior.

Castle itself was a little disappointing, walked up two flights of very steep stairs to get a better view. Nothing much else to see for your 200 yen. Grounds were good, very steep climb so moderate fitness required. Castle walls impressive so worth a visit.

Came here in around spring, the spring breeze is very nice when we feel it on the top. Need some patient to go there because it takes a while and some steep stairs. But the view from the top is really amazing!

There isn't a lot to do in the castle, but the walls are great and the long walk to get to the castle are a lot of fun if you take the traditional and longer route to the keep. This is a little plain, but...More

The interior of the castle costs admission fee, yet it is very empty without many exhibits. I am not saying this because I do not understand the Japanese words, but because there really is limited information boards, so it is not worth the money. The...More

The main keep is original, but most of the other fortifications are gone. The keep is empty inside, but worth a quick look if you can spare 200 yen. The park surrounding the castle makes for a pleasant walk, and the views are great from...More

To create Marugame Castle an entire hill was encased in towering ishigaki (stone wall) and ringed by a moat. With scant room for large trees to grow, these resplendent walls rise in tiers above the surrounding town like some tremendous ziggurat. Marugamejō contains an original...More

It is one of only a dozen Japanese castles to still have an original wooden tenshu built before 1860. It's a castle on the hill, so some leg power is reqired to see it. However when you finish the climbing of the hill, you can...More

It's best to view this as a castle-based park rather than a castle, as the keep looks rather small and lonely up top (I decided not to pay to enter, having already visited the castles in Kochi and Hikone). The walls are really impressive though...More

I walked up there yesterday with my family it's undoubtedly the highlight in the area. Cherry blossoms starting to come out now at the end of March which gives a very beautiful scenery.
