What an awesome experience to view the cave at low tide, as this has been a goal to view for some time. Please note you can only access the cave at low tide.
There`s quite a walk to the cave and people not moderately fit, will definitely complain, so be sure to wear comfortable tekkies or hiking boots as you walk on soft sea sand, from the parking area and have to watch out for 4x4s and other high ground vehicles, as they pass you on the walk towards the cave and they do not give way to walkers or runners.
However once you enter the cave its all worth it.

Still as impressive as always. The very small and hiden away entrance makes for a quite dramatic entry, as it is impossible to get in from the sea side. After exiting walk around to the right where the spray from waves can be quite impressive. Just be warned only serious 4x4 vehicles can reach the parking area near the cave.

Early morning, on our way to view the cave. Cloudy and rainy, did not stop us.
Follow the bords that state CAVE, or you will walk pass it.
Best to wear shoes, as the way there is over stones and sharp rocks, do not wear your best shoes, as they might (100%) get wet. Best to go on outgoing low tide.
Worth the turn off, even if not planning or staying in Waenhuiskrans. It is a must see landmark.
Beautiful and something to view yourself for full appreciation.
Will go back on a sunny day, to get the nive photo.

Not quite knowing what to expect and all the warnings about this place, we timed our adventure to the tides and prayed it would stop raining for a bit. We were in luck. The walk is not too treacherous and our 6 year old coped very well. It does require some clever footing and guidance on the rocks getting to the cave but we managed not to get too wet and were rewarded with this really beautiful natural site. Well worth the visit and we could definitely see why this is rated so highly. Very special place that nature has carved out.

Been coming here to Arniston for all my life. Over 50 years. I always wonder how many peeps go down to the cave and do not realize that you need to go through the hole in the back of the first cave. How disappointed they must be. Also all those that try go round the front to enter the cave. I have on a many occasions assured people by showing them the right way. The smile is worth the effort.
So. When going to the cave go into the small one to the small hole in the wall at the back. This leads into the proper cave. Enjoy the view.
Try the the other cave through the chimney. Locals must show this one.

Been there so many times, but only saw the "spuitgate" in full glory once. When is the best time to go there to see that spectacular sight? I know one can only go at low tide, but would like to see the water squirting again!

Go at low tide. From Arniston travel south on Habour St. to the parking lot by Roman Beach — the beach was busy enough that parking seemed safe. Continue walking 1.4 km along the 4x4 road with great coastline views to finally stone stairs leading down to a small beach. Follow the coast south ~50 m to the right to a small cave with an entrance to the large cave in the back. If you go too far you will come to the sea entrance of the large cave with deep water — go back about 30 m to the small cave to see the inside of the large cave.
The inside of the cave is astonishing, well worth the hike! Enough light within to take some nice photos to astonish your friends and same the memories.

Just above romans beach at arniston is a parking area where one can leave your car and follow the signed tracks to the caves.
about 500m walk you can take the steps down to the rocks and enter the first cave.....at the rear of this cave you will find a small opening through 2hich one needs to climb to tgin access to large cave.
Best done at low tide.
increeibly beautiful views out to sea.
well worth the effort.

The walk to the cave from the Arniston hotel is an experience on its own - wander through village or walk along the beach. Quite a steep climb down to the cave but definitely worth the effort

Such an amazing place to visit. Plan your trip well. The cave is only accessible during the low tide. You would also need a 4x4 so that you can drive on the sand. A smaller car would be okay but you would need to leave at the parking and walk for about a kilometre.

it is a long walk through sand and then you will need to go through some shallow rock pools. so be sure to take your time. take plenty of water for you and the dog and be prepared to carry it some of the time. Once in the cave it may be a bit scary and loud (echos) and dark but just be there for the dog.
Remember look for the hole in the wall at the back of the small cave. do not go around to the front of the cave to enter. Watch the waves at all times.
