The audio guide for the tour was very entertaining and informative, you can't help but laugh out loud. Lots of interesting historical perspective as well. No cafe but the gift shop, though small, had a great selection.

Had planned to visit Doune Castle as part of our Scotland trip but were disappointed to find them closing the doors at 3.30 on a Sunday. Pleasant enough walks around the Castle grounds and good views of Castle from the front.(scaffolding up at the back)...More

My husband and I are both Monty Python fans and I’m a massive Outlander fan, so a visit to Doune Castle was definitely on the cards! It was a nice change from the crowd packed bigger castles and so it was easy to navigate and...More

This castle is phenomenal. Even though there's not as much to see as a place like Edinburgh Castle or Inverary, the history feels very much a live thanks to the phenomenal audio guide. We visited as a part of a tour, and our one regret...More

I loved this castle. It was pouring rain when I went but with the audio tour I was able to get a great overview of the castles history and an entertaining look at some of the movies and tv shows that have been filmed there....More

Great audio guide that has choice of normal history or "outlander" version. Majority of site is indoors so ideal for a rainy day. No cafe on site . Scaffolding in place at moment for repairs but this does not detract from experience.

Surprised find so much to see in a small ruin. The audio commentary made the tour interesting and staff helpful especially that it was a very wet day when we visited

We had an interesting visit to Doune Castle. It’s worth taking the audio guide to learn about the castle itself and, if you are a film buff, learning about the films/tv series which have used to location. For the more mature of us, I guess...More

This is an amazing partly ruined castle. People who are fans of Outlander have been flocking to it and other places that were used in making of the programme. And fans of Monty Python would also enjoy it. But, even if you did not go...More

A couple of hours is plenty of time. It’s not very large, but well worth the visit.

No dogs are allowed in the castle but they are allowed within the castle grounds on a lead. Various walks in the grounds & it is a beautiful setting. Free to park (limited and busy car park however)

You can purchase entry there. If you are going to see a lot of castles while you are in Scotland, I would suggest looking into purchasing an Explorer Pass. My husband and I save a lot of money by purchasing one. Definitely... More
