Overview
More
Ditchling is no ordinary village; it has been home to some of Britain's most innovative artists and has a legacy of international importance. Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft is an independent charity dedicated to the display and preservation of art and craft produced by artists associated with the village of Ditchling. The museum celebrates the important artistic heritage of the village which was home to many artists including Frank Brangwyn, Eric Gill, Charles Knight, David Jones, Edward Johnston, Ethel Mairet and many others. Following a major redevelopment in 2013, the museum is now an award-winning attraction with regularly changing exhibitions, a dedicated learning space and new facilities including a shop and cafe in a restored 18th century Cart Lodge.

Unexpectedly moving. The museum was hosting an exhibition of Corina Kent’s work. It was a new discovery. We were previously unfamiliar with her attempt to express her heart and soul, her love and faith through pop art, and her struggles to introduce a modernist aesthetic...More

What a gem this is nestled in one of the prettiest villages in Sussex. The current exhibit on the work of Sister Corita Kent was remarkable. An excellent lesson in openness and activism through peaceful and artistic means for this current time we live in....More

What a great experience. The arts and crafts movement gets an in-depth treatment here. Eric Gill and his contemporaries and followers are given a clever display. It is small but perfectly formed, and all the better for it.

It was not all bad, we were made very welcome and the building is delightful. So pleased that it exists to inform and celebrate the many talented people who lived in Ditchling. However, on the leaflet we read it states “a unique opportunity to experience...More

Hello there, so sorry to hear that you were disappointed not to see any Frank Brangwyn artefacts. At the time you visited we were showing a large exhibition of work by Elizabeth Friedlander, and given the size of our museum we are often unable to...More

It is a compact museum detailing the works of the local artists depicted including Eric Gill. It features the many covers of Penguin Essentials designed here. Its worth a short visit if you are in the area and there is nearby free parking.

Very small museum not worth the £7.50 entrance fee. Also it has an obsession with past resident artist Eric Gill conveniently ignoring the fact he was a serial abuser who should not be celebrated.More

Small but mighty museum with a great shop and really interesting exhibitions on local but well known artists. Really pretty building, a pleasurable way to spend a morning or an afternoon!
