Recommend that you make this the first stop on your visit to Yosemite because the staff can give you lots of useful information on what to see and the levels of difficulty of various trails. You can then plan your day accordingly
I learned a lot and the shopping was special because all the proceeds benefit the Yosemite Conservancy. Shop here, NOT the Village Store. Both of the videos were excellent and the exhibits were most educational and well done.

Some of the displays from my childhood are still in the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center, and some are updated. I especially appreciate the geologic displays and information.

The center has an excellent exhibit about the formation of the valley. I like the explanation about how all the granite came about. In back of the center is a theater that shows films about Yosemite on the half hour.
The Yosemite Valley Visitor Centre is in the middle of the village in the Yosemite Valley. It is nestled between the Ansel Adam Gallery and Yosemite Museum and is open from 9-5pm daily.
