We booked our tickets online before we went. Glad we did! WOW are there a lot of people taking this tour! It was very well organized and easy to find! We rode the boat out to the island where we had a self guided tour...More
A must do tour guides are brilliant very informative and we met an ex prisoner who was doing a book signing The cell block audio tour is fantastic so much history and sound effects. A lot to see so requires at least half a day
We booked our Alcatraz night trip with Alcatraz tours in February, but we were not visiting San Francisco until late May. This was the right thing to do as all Alcatraz night tours got sold out in March! The ferry trip to Alcatraz island was...More
Even though the wooded trails were a bit wet for us to ride due to the fog, but the experience was amazing, and we all enjoyed it very much. The horses looked happy, well cared for- these were some of the best-behaved horses we’ve ever...More
We really enjoyed this tour. Catching a boat from pier 33 out the island. I was surprised as to how big it was. A nice welcome from a member of staff explaining what is available to you whilst visiting. We did the audio tour which...More
My kids were like ‘why do we have to go there’ but afterwards said it was one of the highlights of our trip. The audio tour was so well put together and we all wished it had gone on longer. Amazing to see, hear and...More
Our tour guide, Mary, was excellent. She’s a native who knows her history and is a great story teller. The 4 hour tour is quite comprehensive and also affords some flexibility. You visit most major attractions.
I was in this trip with my friends and sister. We couldn’t find tickets and at the last moment contacted Adam, he assured we would get the tickets. I showed up at the time he asked me to meet him. He was honest, and on...More

Hi, It depends on how old your children are. If they are small, I wouldn't recommend going there and the tour. They would be bored. If they are older, it would be fine. I just did the tour by itself without a bus combo. I think the bus tour separate would be good as well. Also, I'm sure you will jump on and off the cable cars. Parking on the street can be challenging, but there are also parking garages, lots, etc. The Alcatraz tour we took started at a Pier (don't remember which one) and there is a parking lot right across the street. You take a boat over and, yes, all tours take about 2 1/2 hrs. I highly recommend the audio tour which takes you through at your own pace and explains what you are looking at. Then there are guides at times that demonstrate how they locked down the prisoners etc. Very interesting, but a commitment in time for sure, and again, based on the age of the children, would be a consideration. Hope this helps! Have fun!!!
