Weight lifters still strut their stuff at this outdoor gym where, in the 30s, 40s and 50s, crowds would gather to watch young men and women honing their bodies, some of whom, like Vic Tanny and Jack LaLanne, went on to fame in the fitness world.

Had a wander down to see this. We visited the old original site and the new one. You have to give this place a visit when in Venice Beach or Santa Monica.

We walked here from the pier. It got more crowded and crazier the closer we got to Venice beach. There’s a million beggars, performers, shops and tourists on the way there.

This Muscle Beach got famous because of Arnold Schwartznegger. It was closed when I was there. No one was allowed to exercise there. Nothing special in my opinion.

We passed this and ended up watching people forever. People were doing cool tricks on the rings, or some set up balance wires (things?) and doing cool tricks. We couldn’t help but think how fun this would be to bring our pre teen and teenagers...More

Ok but nothing special, if you not a fitness person, but the option is available if you want to work out.

First of all, we learnt during our visit that there are two "muscle beaches", one in Santa Monica, and the other one in Venice Beach (currently under construction). In Santa Monica we spent a few relaxing evening hours there, watching other people (and our son)...More

We stopped on our bike ride to check out Muscle Beach. It wasn't really all that exciting really. Just some people working out in public

It was having a refurbishment for our visit. However still a good place to pop along to and try out the equipment on the sand or even the basketball courts which has plenty of seating around.

Venice has always danced to its own beat as the
epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along
the boardwalk there are street performers and local
craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings,
souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of
visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting
enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders
do their tricks around the skate park. All of it

There are several pay parking lots in the area, but go early in the day around 10 or 11. We paid $20 to park and stayed about 5 hours. The Sidewalk Cafe is the best place to eat there too. It tends to get a little shady on... More

Not many bodybuilders, but a lot of kids playing basketball. Throughout the week, there are lots of traders and stores to look at as you wander up and down.

No breakfast at muscle beach, just a place to work out and or see fitness ! Try the pier, but only has trendy food .
