The arduous climb up to monastery was a treat in itself and the view above was just unbelievably beautiful. Being able to set foot on the same place where Jesus fasted and was tempted by the devil was just another level.
We viewed the monastery across the valley for a small Bedouin village. Our Franciscan tour leader explained the temptation of Christ that happened here and read the scriptures.
Viewing the mountain from a distance gave a greater impact to the story.

Set on the edge of a cliff, we were told only two monks live in the monastery currently. Take the tram up, we were unable to go up to the monastery when we were there but viewing from the bottom is pretty cool.
