I was hoping I could get up this Qianmen tower - which is practically like the south entrance to Tiananmen Square - but it is barricaded. So I could only view it from below and at a distance. Disappointed. But the streets south of Qianmen...More

This was not on the recommended things to do in Beijing, yet I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a recreation of old Peking. The central road is wide and the alleys are narrow, clean and have lots of shops. They date back to over hundred years...More

Also know as Zhengyang Men and behind it is the Arrow Tower. this was the entrance into Beijing at one time. Worth a short visit. You get a view of the city from here.

You will be impressed by the Qianmen pedestrian mall (recommended between 11:30 and 12:00) - it is hard to believe, but this pedestrian mall, which today is one of the most modern and organized streets in Beijing, was before 2008 like all the streets in...More

This impressive and beautifully painted gate is located at the south end of Tiananmen Square and is the gate for the inner city of Beijing. It is easily seen as you enter the square and is a great meeting point because you cannot miss it.
