- CasaRoscoeOttawa, Canada236 contributionsA very good underground experienceThis was a reasonably well-run guided tour that lasts just over an hour. Tickets are purchased in advance and admission based on timings. Walking distance underground is about 300 metres, and involves a fair number of stairs and some narrow passages. Our guide was knowledgeable and animated, and pointed out the various subterranean spaces, which include houses, an aqueduct and cisterns, the massive "Western Stone," and the remains of a medieval church. Unfortunately, he occasionally dawdled a bit, which meant that we were pushed along a bit by the group behind us. That said, learning about the wall's history and seeing the incredible masonry skills used in ancient times, makes this underground tour worthwhile.Visited March 2023Written 7 April 2023

Ora, our guide, provided a comprehensive & engaging tour in English. Despite its length, she found ways to involve the children while imparting history to the adults.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 June 2023
- Jessie DBrooklyn, New York1 contributionA great place, a perfect guideWe really recommend to visit the Great Bridge tour. It was amazing and we had a perfect guide, Revital. She explained everything with a smile and a lot of knowledge. Unfortunately, there were too many kids under the age of 4 and they ran and made a lot of noises. We think that this tour must be for 7 years old and above.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 August 2023

He was so personable, informative, funny, engaging, all ages loved him. He answered all our questions and we not only saw such cool and important stuff, and we not only learned a ton, we also felt totally uplifted by all that he taught us. We all learned so much. He speaks both Hebrew and English perfectly. We highly recommend booking a tour at the tunnels and if you’re lucky, you’ll get Liam as your guide!! PROS
* Amazing archaeological excavations of Jewish life here 2000 years ago, in the time of Jesus- new discoveries all the time
* An essential experience for all tourists to Jerusalem
* Choice of more than one tour path
* Exciting adventure of walking and exploring in dark sometimes damp labyrinthine passageways
* Stand at the hidden holiest part of the holy Western Wall
* Regular tours in English
* Extremely reasonably prices at 25NIS per adult
CONS
* It is always crowded and darkened- one can get lost
* Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance
* One needs fair agility to traverse the place, and no anxiety about crowded enclosed places to walk through
* Only accessible as part of an organized impromptu tour and it can be hard to hear the speaker/lecturer tour guide because of the number of people in the group, your distance from the speaker, the sound acoustics in the tunnel and maybe other nearby competing tour groups.
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... as an activity for two teenagers. I had done it at least twice 10-15 years ago and i had entered the start of the massive excavations 45+ years ago too.
After registering on line and then being officially registered on site, we received an identity band and joined our tour guide.
The place was quite crowded- there were multiple competing tour groups going in different directions in the underground passageways.
I very much enjoyed our tour to the Great Bridge. i especially enjoyed and marveled and was thrilled at being so close to the hidden Western Wall with its smooth perfectly preserved stones, and also seeing the preserved remnants of the bridge as well as the intact theatre area. My group enjoyed it too.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Of course
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Of course- I would then do one of the other tours
ADVICES
* Be sure to go- be sure to register and pay online
* Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time- know where the main entrance is (to the left of the Western Wall plaza as you stand facing it)- directly behind the many water sinks on the men's side
* Be prepared to enter a crowded darkened underground subterranean tunnels- watch your step- not dangerous but probably not for people with limited mobility
* Be prepared to learn of the Jewish history and presence here for well over 2000 years, and to see it
* Be sure to be able to hear your tour guide, and not get distracted by other groups, and to not get separated from the group and then lose your way during your adventure

We really recommend to visit the Great Bridge tour.
It was amazing and we had a perfect guide, Revital.
She explained everything with a smile and a lot of knowledge.
Unfortunately, there were too many kids under the age of 4 and they ran and made a lot of noises. We think that this tour must be for 7 years old and above.

Really interesting, the tour guide (Mickey) was fabulous. The history and the complexity of the tunnels was fascinating. Do you have to do it? Probably not, but if you can (time and financially) I would recommend it.

The western wall tunnels are worth visiting. What you can get and appreciate depends on the guide. Ours was a aged man that spent most of the time trying to make a comedy-style spectacle appreciated, as far as I perceived, by few participants while most of us were looking around, bored. After a while, some of the participants resigned and went away. Buy the guide was to busy in his "comedy" to realize It.

Is this ok for a Claustrophobic person? Are the tunnels wide or narrow? Are we in small/confined spaces?

Much of the area is quite open (largish rooms but in some spots, the short passages between rooms are a bit narrow. The area is fascinating but you should use your judgement based on how you might feel in the area.

What is the difference between the "The Great Stone Tour (The Classic Tour)" and the "The Great Bridge Tour (NEW)" in terms of what is visited, etc? Is one recommended over the other?

Both tours are great. The great bridge tour shows you newly discovered architecture.

Does anyone know if you can enter the Western Wall Tunnels through the Via Dolorosa exit? Do the passage the other way around and end in the actual Western Wall Plaza.

All the other responses are correct. Entry is by the Western Wall plaza. Exit is by Via Dolorosa.

Hi !
sorry the delay...
The meeting point is just at left side of "man's entrance" to the Western Wall... you can see it in big letters - it is just there, a big entrance (just like a theater).
Go 10 minutes, at least, before the appointment time you made.
It will take around 1 hour and the archeologist who made the explanation was very good. Now I understand a little better all the history behind (under) it.

Hello,
Could you please let me know where to book this tour in advance?

Through the kotel website directly. Don’t waste your money getting it elsewhere. Sometimes it doesn’t load properly because of your server. I ended up purchasing the tickets on my phone because it wouldn’t work on my computer 🤷🏻♀️
What is the difference of 'behind of thr scene' and 'kota tunnel' when make a researvation W.Wall tunnel tour. behind~ course include kota~course?

The Kotel is the Hebrew name of the Western Wall. When you book your tour, you can ask for the Kotel tunnel tour or the Western Wall tunnel tour - they are the same thing, no difference.

If you ho to the Kotel, you go to the area just next to the entrance to the men's prayer section. They can provide times for tours which are about every hour.

How long does it take to go (tour) through the tunnels? Do u come out some place?
Lyn Alexander

15-20 mins. But it depends, if you want to stop and listen to the story or pray maybe 25-30 mins. You will exit on Via Dolorosa.
