This area is quite lovely. There is a small viewing area that is accessible via a 5 minute walk from the dock. As far as I know, there is no access from land.

We took two of our children to visit Fern Grotto 23 years after being serenaded at the cave on our honeymoon by the musicians from Smiths boat. We travelled to the Grotto on one of Smiths boats up the Wailua River and then a small...More

Great place to visit especially if you learn some history behind it. Apparently, only royalty were allowed to travel upriver to the Fern Grotto for special ceremonies. Hurricane Iniki destroyed the grotto in 1992 and permanently closed the entrance to visitors and private events. There...More

This is such an amazing place of beauty! It definitely exceed our expectations. So special....listening to quiet sounds of nature and taking in the music. Fern Grotto was delightful. Living in Hawaii must be a dream come true. Watching hula... spectacular!

Since reviews were mixed we were pleasantly surprised to find this beautiful spot on a peaceful river ride. Music and hula on the ride to the grotto was cute. Amount of time at the grotto was adequate. Only minor complaint is we couldn’t understand the...More

This was such a nice boat ride and the walk to the fern grotto was beautiful. There were many exotic flowers and plants. It was lovely. We enjoyed the music and dancing on the way back.

Walked up to get on the 11am boat to the fern grotto. We all enjoyed the trip and the entertainment on the return trip was enjoyable. Affordable and worth the trip.

If you understand what it is, this is a relaxing boat ride up one of the few navigable rivers on Kauai. Just don't sit toward the back. The engine is very noisy. The musicians and performers are very good and obviously do this from cultural...More

We started slightly up river at Kamokila Hawaiian village. From there, it was maybe ten minutes. If you start at the other kayak rental places at the mouth of the river, it will take you longer. There isn't much to see in... More
