It's a long boat ride and an awkward experience at times, but in the end it's totally worth it. Can't figure it out if the basic and shared sanitary utilities are left like that on purpose. Better facilities should be made available, no harm in...More

We had the experience to live with a local family who was very friendly with us (Paula). It's not a luxuriuous place but it's worth living it at least for 1 night.

A one night homestay on Amantani Island was included in our Peru tour. Before leaving the UK we had not had much time to research what this would be like so didn't know what to expect. We were paired with an American couple and dropped...More

We did a home stay with a local family and it was a good experience. The Food was good and we watched beautiful sunset. Shame the night was so cold and we struggled a bit.

We were in Puno and chose to do an overnight homestay with one of the local families in the Amantani island. We mostly enjoyed our experience, however it is definitely very basic. We paid $37 USD (through PeruHop) for a 2-day overnight tour to Uros...More

We spent night and sea on the island and enjoyed every moment. The scenery is amazing and the experience is stunning We were hosted by a "cell" at home. The house is simple and rural, with no electricity or running water, and the meals are...More

We spent about a month in SE Peru and this two day trip was easily one of the hilights. We were not too sure what to expect, but wanted to get a closer look at the lake lifestyles and cultures. You certainly do by visiting...More

We have visited only for a day from Capachica, but I really wished we would have stayed at one of the homestays. The island is beautiful, with terraced hillsides, sheep, stunning views and great hiking opportunities. There are two peaks, Pachamama and Pachatata, with ancient...More

Because of the altitude and the dazzling sun everything is exceedingly bright so you need to be diligent about wearing sunglasses, hats and sunscreen. Taking photographs is also challenging due to the bright light. Amantani, a small island of 3 1/2 square miles, is located...More

I chose an overnight stay here to see how some of the people actually lived. After a 3 hour boat ride from Uros islands, we reached the dock. Their are several communities here which host tourists. Our host house was at the highest point of...More

Yes, though if you are on a homestay visit I would not assume that there will be electricity in the bedroom. The house we stayed in had some electricity but none in our room.

We booked through our hotel (we stayed the night before) and it was cheaper than booking from the UK. I dare say that if we had strolled down to the lake shore we could have saved a little more. We set off at 6.30am, so... More
