This is part of the Chichen Itza Heritage Site. Mayan astronomers (super talented) climbed the spiral staircase to gaze at the heavens and make their best predictions. This building was named after the spiral staircase; El Caracol means snail.

In the early morning, it is worth getting up if you are staying at the Mayaland, and capturing the observatory in the early morning light. It is a unique structure, not seen anywhere else in the Yucatan

This is a lot more secluded than the teemingly busy El Castillo and makes for a great, unobscured photo. It is a must see, being just a few minutes walk from El Castillo.

As everything in Chichén Itzá, is closed so you can only take pictures from the line. Very deteriorated and sad to see.

Yes. Only a short walk from the pyramid. It's the oldest part of the site I think.
