Jibeeen Castle is a very well done reconditioned 17th century castle. Free audio tours are provided to all interested visitors, containing good historical information. It is an easy, short drive from Nizwa.
Well worth a visit to this fascinating Castle. Wonderful historical place that was built in the late 1600s. The highlights of the castle tour include the falaj system – irrigation channels that bring water to the castle from distant springs – which you will encounter...More
This spectacular restored 17c fort was beautiful to view inside and out. It is wonderful to wander the rooms and passages and is incredibly photogenic. For me it was the best fort compared to Nizwa and Bahla who seem to attract more of the attention....More
We booked a private tour with Sunshine Tours and Jibreen Castle was one of the stops we made. Of all the things we saw in Oman (including Nizwa Fort and Bahla Fort), Jibreen Castle was one of the most interesting.

The Jabrin fort/castle is perhaps the most beautiful and best preserved in Oman. It has a smart and interesting design. Inside you’ll find some beautiful interiors, location and also the Imam tombstone. Above of it you’ll have a beautiful viewpoint of the valley.
There are many tours from Muscat that will take you to this fort. Make sure you have at least one hour to explore it, because it has many (hidden) rooms. It's quite interesting since it's not in a city but in the midst of palm...More
In my opinion, this castle is more beautiful & interesting than the Nizwa Fort. Beautifully designed with complex architecture and secret rooms. Nice view from the roof top of the surrounding plain. Audio guide available for self guided tour
I read that if you're going to see a fort, this was the fort to see. We were glad we stopped here as it was a complete building, not ruins or partially restored.
It got 50 bashar per person, well worth the cost. We found...More

its much cheaper and you are much more flexible to do it on your own with rent a car. We did two weeks travelling with a small child and it was great. The organised tours are way too expensive and not necessary. Oman is really safe and the motorways are new and nice. Google maps works well. In fact you don´t even need 4 x 4 vehicle. The only two times we needed it was - in the desert and high in the mountains Jebel Sham. Everything else is easily accessible by normal car.
