What a wonderful time we had. We were warmly greeted by the staff at the centre and Paul (1) and Lynne immediately set about putting us at ease using humour and gentle encouragement - the big hugs were a bonus! A yummy muffin and some coffee helped to line the tummy before the trip. The briefings were short, to the point and very helpful, telling us what to expect out there. Boarding the boat was straight forward and it was then eased down the slipway and we were soon on our adventure. We shortly reached our area and set about finding a suitable spot to drop anchor. Paul (2) then explained how the sharks are attracted to the boat using chum (a fishy bait), the use of a draw line and how to enter the cage, which by now was in the water and tied to the side of the boat. We donned wetsuits and started the wait. Excitement bubbled as the cry of a shark sighting rang out and a few people clamboured down to enter the cage. The water was very cold, but we soon got used to it. The water was murky, so we couldn't see very far, but were rewarded by two very close encounters with Bronze Whalers. Such a rush! Anyone who was feeling seasick was well looked after and there were plenty of chips and lollipops to help prevent or alleviate any feelings of nausea. Towels were provided. It was also great to have a couple of researchers on board who freely shared what they were doing. and were very knowledgeable about the sealife. All too soon, the cage was loaded up again and we were heading back to the slipway. The helmsman weaved deftly through the rocks before sliding expertly onto the trailer on the slipway. Back in the office we were treated to a deliciously warming lasagna and another hot drink. Friendly farewells and then it was time to head home.

I have just downloaded my video, documenting the whole experience, with added extra footage. A great memento of a memorable and worthwhile adventure.

Thank you to everyone - the shore crew and the boat crew. We had a wonderful time.

Highly recommended. No sharks or humans were harmed at any stage,

My daughter really wanted to do this for her 21st birthday; I thought she’d lost her marbles. I tried talking her out of it, reasoned and cajoled but her heart was set. So we booked for the 5 of us for the 7th April, but only she and my partner were actually planning on getting in the water.

On arrival, however, everyone we met was so warm and welcoming, so knowledgeable and reassuring about all aspects - the sharks, the experience and the conservation that even the biggest scaredy-cat (me) put on her swimsuit.

Regrettably, the seasickness got the better of me. Despite the lollipops and advice thoughtfully provided by the crew, I couldn’t get my sea legs in gear nor could I fathom how to simultaneously battle the seasickness and a wetsuit so I never made it into the water.

The other 4 members of my party did though, with my daughter being unbelievably smug that she didn’t throw up. She and my partner even chose to go down a second time when offered by the crew. The experience was the absolute highlight of their holiday, rivalled only by the penguins on Boulders Beach.

And even though I didn’t make it into the water, I still saw plenty of sharks from the boat.

Finally, a shout out to the Pauls and the rest of the crew for being fully prepared for every eventuality over which they had some control - lollipops, water and snacks for seasickness, oilskins for spray, salmon ‘soup’ to attract sharks, for their kindness, advice and reassurance to everyone who wasn’t feeling well and not to mention the hugs and cups of ginger tea once returned to dry land. And somehow too, in between all that also creating a video of the experience as a memento.

Dear Aileen It was such a pleasure meeting you and having you all on board on your daughter's 21st milestone. We're truly honoured that you chose White Shark Diving Company for your incredible adventure and it seems as if we didn't disappoint. We go the extra mile in giving all our guests the most safe, awesome and unforgettable experience and that is evident from the very 1st contact with our team and all the Pauls. :) It's our mission to change the perception that sharks are not the man eating machines as portrayed by the media, but rather magnificent and misunderstood animals in greater need of further research and protection. Thank you once again for your review and recommendation and we look forward to seeing you again. Safety, education, respect and research (while having fun) remain our priority. Best wishes and safe travels Your WSDC team

The trip was absolutely amazing - very well-planned and fabulous, friendly staff. We were collected from our hotel (on time) by Paul who was the perfect driver - informative and willing to answer all our questions. On arrival we were greeted by (another) Paul whose humour and banter was welcomed during our pre-trip coffee and muffin. The safety briefing by (yet another) Paul provided the essential information. The boat sped across the water with a fair amount of jolting around so travel sickness tablets may be a good idea if you're prone to motion sickness. At shark alley we encountered thousands of sealions (Cape fur seals) whose aroma permeated the air and their antics made up for the fact the sharks were not around today. We still used the shark cage to view the sealions - the water is very cold so bring warm clothes for afterwards.
We stayed at sea for a couple of hours before making our way back for delicious lasagne and beverages (Paul making ginger and honey tea for anyone feeling a little queasy!) We all really enjoyed the trip even though the sharks were elusive and the bonus was we receive a voucher for a free trip anytime in the next 2 years as compensation - what fabulous customer service 👏 Well done guys!

Dear Angela Thank you so much for your kind review. It was such a pleasure having you all on board and we're glad you had the opportunity of meeting the majestic and very playful Cape Fur seals in the absence of sharks during your trip, as well as meeting our dedicated and passionate team during your time with us. With all the Pauls, you certainly didn't have a hard time remembering the names. 😁 Thank you for also being so understanding of the fact that we are 100% at the mercy of Mother Nature and what she offers us on the day. Thank you once again for your review and recommendation and we look forward to meeting you again in order to introduce you to the sharks. Safety, education, respect and research (while having fun) remain our priority. Best wishes and safe travels Your WSDC team

My boyfriend and I did the shark cage diving on April 11th, 2022. The whole operation is super professional and all the staff in the office and on the boat are really lovely and helpful, especially the two Pauls :) The boat ride out is very short which is nice, and the sharks showed up right away. We had 6 bronze whaler sharks the whole time that were very curious and interactive. It was very exciting! I personally disliked the air breathing apparatus so I just held my breath underwater but everyone else used the air with no problem. The wetsuits are nice and thick and keep you reasonably comfortable in the cold water. Paul got some great GoPro footage of the sharks and we got a really nice video of the trip at the end, as well as a hot shower and delicious lasagna. Thanks so much guys, look forward to doing this adventure with you again next time we are in SA!

Brilliant day with knowledgeable, kind people who you can tell care about the sharks and their plight. Well planned and a must do trip on your visit. Lynn was brilliant to get things organised. Paul was an amazing host. Settled any nerves and made sure we enjoyed the day. Mike was really knowledgeable and his love of the animals and the conservation shone through. The videographer was brilliant too. Captured the day in a great video, all edited for us. Jeff ran the boat and was always working to make sure everyone removed themselves.
We got plenty of time in the water, and had sharks right up against the cage.
Could not have asked for a better day or a better team of experts.

Did last week and was super professional, i asked for the pickup from capetown and everything was super smooth, . the team is super experienced, explain everything in advance and makes us feel super comfortable. the swimming suits are im good conservation , the boat is clean and secure. the crew super friendly. i really recommend! after we were offered a super tasty lasagna.

also the drive from cpt to gansbaai is beautiful and it worth the 2h drive.

my two points of attention:
- bring an extra piece of clothes, and bring your towel for a quick shower after when you come back., the "problem" if you are new as me, i didint realize that to call the sharks they need to throw pieces of fish on the water. , so because you are in the cage that means basically they will throw shark food on you lol. so yoi will leave the water smelling not like a sushi but a whole fish market.
- as we know white sharks are really rare to see now. according to the crew the last one seen in gansbaai was last june, but we had 5-6 sharks on us with 3m at least

Great trip! Excellent service through and through, great communication before the trip, and a wonderful crew. The video is worth getting as it's well done (even if you brought your own camera, which we did). You learn a lot about the sharks and their conservation. We didn't see a great white (as it's critically endangered so not many milling about - you can thank climate change and human mischief) only bronze whalers, but that was special in itself. there were 8 big ones on our dive. there was even a seal pup playing around in the water. warning that the water is cold, bring an extra towel so you can shower off the chum smell afterward.

It was an absolute pleasure having you on board and thank you so much for our 1000th review on TripAdvisor. We're all extremely passionate about what we do and actively involved in the conservation and protection of sharks. Great White sharks travel in and out of our bay and although they're currently absent, we've been blessed with the most awesome Bronze Whaler shark action and we're glad that you still had a very special time with these awesome sharks during your trip with us. We thank you for being understanding of the fact that we are dealing with wild animals and unpredictable Mother Nature. We're very professional in our interaction with our guests in order to ensure an informed, safe and memorable adventure for our valued guests and we're glad that you had the opportunity to experience this first hand. Thank you once more for your review and we look forward to meeting you again in order to introduce you to the Great White sharks. Wow - first of all thank you so much for this mesmerising experience! This was the only thing ever on my bucketlist and you guys turned it into the best day ever. I always had great respect for cage diving and the animals themselves. Especially after seeing a lot of videos and opinions online. But you guys really turned it into a great experience and I felt safe and well informed all the way. It was also nice seeing how respectful and careful the sharks were treated. Would definitely recommend 10/10! Thanks a lot

Dear Pauline It was an absolute pleasure having you on board and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're pleased that you had an absolutely mesmerizing experience with these awesome sharks and our WSDC family and although we are dealing with wild and unpredictable animals in their natural habitat, our crew try their utmost to attract the sharks to the boat in order to give all our guests the safest, most educational and awesome experience and we're glad that their efforts paid off during your trip. We're actively involved in the conservation and protection of sharks, which is only possible with our valued guests' continued support. If everyone leave with the knowledge that sharks are a critical part of the food chain and are beautiful and magnificent animals in further research and protection, then we have achieved our goal of creating awareness of very often, misunderstood animals. Thank you once again for your review and recommendation and we look forward to welcoming you on board again. Safety, education, respect and research (while having fun) remain our priorities.
