Dyer Island is a great choice for your Big Five adventures. The reservation system is straight forward and they were good about communicating with us the day before to confirm that the trip was on. They did change the departure time from late morning until earlier in the day so be sure not to plan other things that require reservations that same day. The welcome center doubles as a restaurant and gift shop and is a nice place to just sit and relax over a cup of coffee or tea (provided). It is a short walk down to the pier. The boat is relatively small and they keep the group to reasonable size so we didn't feel crowded or uncomfortable. Everyone is provided a life jacket and they have kids sizes as well. They quickly found two sets of whales - mothers and their nursing babies. Because they were nursing, they were relatively still in the water so no great photos of their fins or of them breaching. It was still cool to see them. We also saw a few sharks and tons of seals. The seals make such funny noises and really stink. It was harder to identify the penguins although apparently there were a few. The cruise was comfortable and they also provide heavy rain slickers just in case you get cold. We took dramamine an hour or so before we got on the boat just to be pre-emptive and were glad we did. One of our adult friends did feel unwell. Upon our return, we dropped off our life jackets and were treated to big bowls of vegetarian vegetable soup and bread which was a nice way to round out the visit. All in all, this is a very professional outfit that will provide you with the best experience possible.

Thank you for this detailed review Fantajan. We always say that "Your Choice Makes s Difference". By supporting us, you are also supporting the owner established Dyer Island Conservation Trust. The Dyer Island Conservation Trust opened the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary in 2015. A custom-designed marine bird rehabilitation center. We provide temporary care to diseased, displaced, injured, oiled and abandoned marine birds with a special focus on the endangered African penguin, whose population is at an all-time low. Marine bird rescue, rehabilitation and releases are part of the conservation management plan to stabilize and maintain population numbers. We encourage our Marine Big 5 Tour guests to visit the sanctuary at no extra entrance fee.

We drove as family of 5 from Montagu to do the famous shark cage dive with Marine Dynamics. We stayed over in one of their accommodation option the evening before the dive. The accommodation was everything we expected, very clean and comfortable. We had a walk around Kleinbaai in the morning, and also enjoyed a great breakfast at the Great White House. This is also where the cage dive trip starts. For the dive, we were met by our marine biologist and guide - Aleyna for a debriefing, were issued with life jackets, and set off for the boat. We were very impressed with the boat, and felt very safe and comfortable for the duration of the trip. I did the dive with our 3 children, and my wife took loads of pictures and video. We saw 4 sharksm up very close whilst in the cage, and also a massive stingray. The wetsuits protected us agaist the cold, and we had an awesome time watching the sharks come right up to the cage. We got delicious hot chocolate when we got back on board, and enjoyed the cruize back, seeing dolphins, seals and loads of playfull seabirds. The staff went out the way to make us comfortable, and were very informative about all teh wildlife we encountered. This is most definately a trip that will be remembered by all of us, and something that should be on everyone's bucket list!

Thank you for your 5-star review! We are delighted that your family adventure turned into lasting memories. This is for our sister company, Marine Dynamics Shark Tours. Our Marine Big 5 tour however also visits the shark cage diving vessel to view sharks and stingrays. Hope to see you and your family back to join a whale watching experience too.

We have had an amazing day trip from Stellenbosch lovely drive to Gansbaai.
Sandra, Janine and Tracey of the Staff welcomed us in such a friendly way, providing us interesting and helpful information.
Since the very beginning was immediately very clear that this Company works with passion and the main is to protect and conserve the Nature and the treasures it has.
Giving the possibility to people to discover the beautiful the Ocean has to offer us, with a great and well prepared Team and maryine biologists!
You have the feeling that with your little support you can also play an important role to rescue the marine lifes so much in danger due to the humans...
The communications since the beginning are super, when you arrive they will offer you a cup of tee or coffee and muffins while waiting for the information meeting. After that you will have your own safe jacket and a orange jacket that will be very useful during the trip. Short walk to the horbor and on board to a very well maintened boat ideal for whale watching! We went with our 2 children (11 and 7 years old) and both of them simply loved the trip! We could see shark, seals, whales, penguins and my husband also noticed a dolphin! For animal and nature lovers is a must!
Once back we enjoyed a lunch at their coffee shop, lovely shopping at their shop and we could support an important project that is trying to save the African Penguins (if things won't change unfortunately studies shows that in 2026 we will loose them forever....so sad....). Once we left we could reach only a few minutes drive the 'African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary' where you can enjoy a lovely coffee shop while watching the rescued penguins! If you go at 3pm you will assist the feeding!! I do hope that in this difficult time we, as locals, can highly support this company, enjoying an amazing day trip to discover the marine big 5!

What an experience! Me and my grandson of 3 years went on the sea safari.
Let me start from the beginning: The making of the booking, quick, excellent, communication.
The arrival, welcoming and lecture about the sea life above all other companies. Jeanine was our teamleader. Well informed.
Safet: safety jacket is a must, well cared for, in a excellent condition.

The trip wonderful, entertaining. We saw 4 of the big five. The Skipper of the boat made every effort to have a super experience. The supervisors on the boat were professional and accommodative towards my grand child and visitors.
We felt safe at all times. The saying good bye with something to eat was great: freshly baked bread with vegetable soup.
This safari trip was one of the best sea trips that we have done!

Thank you so much for your review! It is so nice to hear that your experience in terms of booking was excellent and done in a timely manner. Thank you for complimenting our staff and mentioning Janine. We appreciate your reference to our equipment and safety jackets as well. It’s so great to hear that you were able to see 4 of the Marine Big 5. Our skipper does his best to ensure the boat ride out is as smooth and safe and that the people on the boat get as close to the wildlife sightings as possible. We love to hear that it was one of the best sea trips you have ever done! Thank you for your support and it was a pleasure to have you on board.

Fantastic experience with Dyer Island Cruises as we spotted all of the marine big 5 on our trip. Very fortunate to experience the first sighting of the Southern Right Whales of the season - got up close to a mother and calf as well as two other males. The entire experience was very professional from the welcome, safety briefing, equipment, boat and staff - made a huge difference having a marine biologist on board who gave us information on all the sightings that we saw. Would highly recommend this trip!

WOW!!! A BIG THANK YOU for having me and my son, Gregory on board at the fabulous Dreamcatcher yesterday for the whale sighting tour. It was just amazing and we truly enjoyed every moment of it. We were so blessed with the beautiful weather and with sightings of the Southern whales and their babies, loads of cute Cape fur seals playing in the water and not to forget the African penguins.
I would like to thank your awesome, professional and friendly team that was there to see if we were all doing ok, both before, during and after the tour.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience & would, without any hesitation, highly recommend Dyer Island Cruise & Marine Dynamics' whale tours to our friends and future guests.

Marine Dynamics run a superb and professional operation. We were a group of 9 and enjoyed sitting on the roof section of the Dream Catcher. Times are tough, but they took all required safety precautions and had a number of knowledgeable team members and a marine biologist on board.

I highly recommend this company as they are really doing a lot to conserve our beautiful environment. The trip was awesome, the staff were very professional. If you are wanting to go on a whale watching trip, rather support the company that really gives back. We saw 6 whales right up close, it was a once in a lifetime experience. Everything was super awesome 😊 well done guys and keep up the amazing work you are doing!

Absolute highlight of our trip! We had a fantastic time on the Whale Whisperer boat and all staff made this an unforgettable experience! This trip was a wedding present for our friends who just got married a few days before. We were welcomed by friendly staff when we arrived at the restaurant and then given an interesting intro into the day. After that we walked over to the marina and boarded the boat with the skipper, marine biologist and an animal spotter. We were quickly rewarded with spotting a large group of bottlenose dolphins, then penguins, seals and a couple of sharks. Unfortunately no whales but the Southern Right migrated already. All staff cared for us perfectly throughout the trip and made us feel very welcome. We would recommend this to everyone, great for all ages.

We’ve been chasing the weather since we arrived in SA and we were anxious about this trip! It was our 8yo daughter’s must do to meet her “spirit” animal, the whale! We were picked up at 4.45am in Cape Town which meant we left the harbour at dawn. While it was an early start we were greeted with fantastic conditions. Every step was incredibly professional and high quality from our driver, the helpful volunteers, a wonderfully patient guide, blankets and warm soup at the end. We saw 4 of the big 5 but more importantly 2 species of whale. We were safe on shore before the wind picked up and another front advanced. Thank you for a great day.
