Meet your guide in the late morning at a centrally located meeting point in Manayunk, and embark on a culinary-minded tour of the neighborhood. This tour will take place over lunchtime, and will include generously portioned samples at multiple stops, so be sure to come hungry.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and with more than 300 years of history behind it, riverfront Manayunk was once a mill town before it became one of Philadelphia’s most food-loving neighborhoods. Take in the sights while your guide gives you a background in the history.
Then, it’s time to eat. Sample tomato pie (a thick, rectangular take on pizza, topped with lots of tomato sauce), the enormous local soft pretzels, and a classic Philly cheesesteak, as well as numerous other treats. At each stop, you’ll see a new side of the neighborhood and discover more about the area’s culinary traditions.
The tour ends right in the center of Manayunk, and just steps from the local train station.
