Overview
Enjoy an idyllic kayaking and hiking adventure on Kauai’s Wailua River. Paddle down the tranquil river and admire the lush jungle landscapes on shore. Your guide will lead you on a hike to a remote waterfall, where you can soak in the splendor of this peaceful and picturesque spot. Go for a swim in the pool and the streams that lead from the waterfall before heading back to your starting point. A deli lunch is also included.
Highlights
  • Explore the Wailua River, one of Kauai’s most sacred places
  • Kayak and hike through a tropical landscape for two different perspectives
  • Follow a guide to a remote waterfall for an off-the-grid experience
  • No need to pack lunch, as a delicious picnic is provided
What to Expect
Considered one of the most sacred places on the island of Kauai, the Wailua River winds 20 miles (32 kilometers) through a lush landscape and past the sites of seven ancient temples. Make your way to the river launch point in Kapa’a and climb into a double, sit-on-top kayak. If you've never kayaked before, your certified guide will provide instruction.
Learn about the Wailua's history and tropical ecosystem from your guide as you paddle for about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. Disembark for a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) hike through the tropical forest, observing native plant and animal species.
Stop at a gorgeous waterfall splashing into a natural pool from 200 feet (60 meters) above. Cool off with a swim here if you like, and recharge with a picnic lunch.

Good teaching of paddling technique. Informative and fun guide, Kamu. I recommend good hiking shoes as the trail is a bit slippery and treacherous at times! Definitely doable. Tons of fun. The waterfall is beautiful!More

This was not really what I was expecting it to be, there were so many people and tours on the trails during our visit. This is definitely not a "remote" or "secret" location, and I would not recommend taking the tour. If you really wanted...More

Aloha, We pioneered the "Secret Falls" Tour over 30 years ago and the interim this has become the best known secret and we switched to calling it the Wailua Sacred Falls. That said it is still a nice experience regardless of how many folks are...More

Despite full disclosure about the mud, the hike was more challenging than I’d expected: roots, rocks, and mud. Heavy rain the day before certainly played a role. I may have overestimated my conditioning and sense of balance at age 71. Kudos to our guide Anya...More
