I must confess that my wife and I went to Nicaragua just because of some paperwork we needed to do, so we tried to make the best use of our weekend, no big expectations.
What a pleasant surprise it turned to be! We discovered a beautiful country with the truly professional guidance Rodolfo gave us (our tour was in spanish, but we noticed he has also an excellent english as he kindly gave some info to some americans that were in a store). Nicaragua is not only beautiful country but full of kind and hard working people that are struggling with adverse economic conditions and with strong hope things will improve.
Rodolfo was very efficient managing our time, he and his driver Winston picked us up at the airport on time, we did a small tour on Managua and head to Granada where we stayed. Immediately after our arrival at Granada we went to a boat trip on the Isletas archipelago, very nice and pleasant with interesting (as usual) info provided by Rodolfo.
Delicious lunch place recommendation and a quite informative 3-hr walking tour around Granada.
After the tour and following Rodolfo’s recommendations, we took a horse carriage; he even told me a nice 8k running route for next day.
2nd day we went to San Juan del Oriente on our way to Masaya to see handcrafts; I’m not that much on handcrafts, but as we saw the very interesting process of making it and also all the effort, detail and skills that this humble people put into those, it changed my thinking about handcrafts.
On our way to “Laguna de apoyo” lagoon we saw on the road lots of different and beautifully colored handcrafts’ stands (each stand specialized by type), the crafts’ colors contrast nicely with the green landscape at the side of the surprisingly good paved roads).
Then, relaxing time in a nice place Rodolfo took us at Laguna de Apoyo where we sunbathed and swimmed in its clear waters while having delicious smoothies. On our way for lunch, we stopped at a high-altitude lookout so we could compare the Laguna de Apoyo to the huge Nicaragua lake at its side. As usual, beautiful place for lunch and then headed to Masaya where we drove around some important streets and stopped at a sovenir market.
To wrap up the day Rodolfo took us to awesome Santiago crater at volcan Masaya, first time we saw lava flow and its “bubbling”, amazing!.
We didn’t felt unsafe, not even for a second and definitely we will return to this beautiful and green country.
Thanks a lot to Rodolfo and to Nicaragua: things will get better, keep it up!

I scheduled a private tour of Masaya Volcano and San Juan de Oriente with Rodolfo and it was one of the highlights of my trip to beautiful Nicaragua. Rodolfo is friendly, professional, responds to correspondence extremely quickly and is an amazing guide with a wide breadth of knowledge about Nicaragua's history and its amazing natural wonders. I also utilized his shuttle service from Granada to Leon, which was on time and a safe, comfortable journey.

Right from the very first email contact with Rodolfo (Rudy), he was on top of things with quick replies. We worked out a full 2 day adventure for my wife and I in and around the Granada area. Him and Francisco came and picked us up 2hrs away and dropped us back off at our rental home when our tour was done. Francisco was an amazing driver. He got us from point A to point B with no worries at all. He was a machine behind that wheel. LOL

Rudy is very fluent in English, having spent many years in the USA. His knowledge of Nicaragua was amazing and knew all the right places to be for each activity that we did. Having knowing a lot of locals in Granada, he took us to some great places to drink and eat, seeing how he considers himself to be a “Foodie”.

When first booking I was a little hesitant about sending a deposit through Western Union to someone I never met before on the other side of the world. Unfortunately this is the only way at the moment for them to exchange money. I wish I would have read this in a review somewhere before I booked to ease my mind. Don’t worry, everything is good and the transactions were 100% legit. Thanks Rudy
So if you are looking for a reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy company to enhance your Nicaragua experience, look no further than Nicaragua Escapade.

I hired Nicaragua Escapade 2x for transfers and both times the driver Francisco arrived timely and didn't get lost like the previous driver I hired. Communication was on point especially since I hired them at the last minute and they were fortunately able to accommodate us. Rodolfo, the owner, was very professional in his communications and had pretty good rates. They also do tours and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them for that too but we just didn't want to leave our hotels. You can't go wrong with Rodolfo of Nicaragua Escapade.

Ruddy arranged both a city tour and a kayak tour of the Isletas for us on our recent trip to Nicaragua. On his recommendation we switched the kayak tour to the morning to avoid rain. Perfect! His guides spoke excellent English, were on time and fun! I just wish we had used his services while we were staying at Mombacho Lodge, where our driver and guides, (with the exception of the Volcano) only spoke Spanish. Made for rather lack lustre tours.

I was at first hesitant to use Western Union in case there was a problem, but I needn't have worried.

If you're visiting Nicaragua, don't hesistate to use Ruddy.

Rodolfo set up a night tour of the volcano at Masaya. It was incredible!!! If you do nothing else, do this tour. Rodolfo also handled quite a bit of transportation for us. His drivers were friendly, personable, always on time, and, most of all, safe drivers. Thank you, Rodolfo, for all your help.

It is very important for us to provide the best service no matter how small the service is, Masaya Volcano at night is most definetely somehting to do while in Nicaragua. Our drivers are all well experienced and we provide the best vehicle possible for the comfort of out clients, i am glad that everything went great for you, thanks for your business

We just returned from a six-night stay in Nicaragua in early August with 17 family members in all, spanning three generations. We relied on Rodolfo (aka, “Rudy”) for our roundtrip airport transfers to/from our resort -- as well as two full days of excursions.

With respect to the roundtrip airport transfers, Rudy’s drivers (both named Marvin) were punctual and courteous -- for the return trip to the airport, we arrived with plenty of time to navigate the gridlock that is Managua airport. The buses that Rudy provided comfortably fit all 17 of us, including our luggage -- and the air-conditioning worked great (a huge plus in the stifling heat).

We booked two different tours with Rudy, The first was the Granada City + Isletas Tour. Granada is Rudy’s hometown and so he knows it like the back of his hand. In the morning, he took us on a walking tour of the city, showing us the main sites in the city. We then stopped off at a local bistro for a delicious lunch before heading to Lake Nicaragua for a boat tour of the Isletas de Granada. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to experience Granada.

The second tour was a nighttime visit to the Masaya Volcano. Before we visited the volcano, Rudy took us to Catarina, which gives you amazing views of Laguna de Apoyo (a volcanic lake) down below -- see the photo I posted with the review. You can take postcard-quality photos of the lake from here. After Catarina, we went to the Masaya Arts & Crafts Market to do some shopping. We finished the tour at the Masaya Volcano, which was the highlight of the excursion, with the lava bubbling down below. Because the tour ended at night, we asked Rudy to take us to a nice restaurant in Managua for dinner -- it was a delicious meal and a welcome change from the food we were eating at the resort.

Having previously lived in the U.S. for a decade, Rudy’s English is impeccable and he is able to explain things to American tourists in a way that they will easily understand. He deftly handled the many questions we threw at him about Nicaragua (we knew very little before our trip). Rudy was also very good about showing us an unvarnished “real” look at Nicaragua without any sugar-coating -- something that many in our group appreciated. Sometimes you will run into guides that are only willing to talk about the good things about their country. Not Rudy, who wanted to show us both good and not-so-good.

The best part about hiring Rudy was how responsive he is. Even though we peppered him with daily e-mails about our airport transfers and excursions, he was quick to respond via e-mail each and every time. I cannot say the say for some of his competitors in Nicaragua, some of whom took days to respond to e-mail inquiries. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, please note that Rudy will require a 50% deposit before confirming a booking -- this is customary and perfectly fine, so no need to worry.

Trust me -- if you book Rudy at Nicaragua Escapade, you will be extremely thankful that you did -- Rudy is amazing!

Rudy and Nicaragua Escapade made our trip to Granada phenomenal. We did three day trips with Rudy over the course of three days: The first was the Granada city tour to get our bearings, on the second day we went to Mombacho/Laguna de Apoyo and finished with the Classic Masaya tour. All were great, including Laguna which exceeded expectations. Rudy did a great job of connecting with three generations of my family and sharing all aspects of Nicaragua for which he is very proud. Having gone to high school in the States, Rudy's English is flawless and he is able to cross culturally relate his experiences in the US to those in Nicaragua. Ask him to take you to the fish restaurant with the dirt floor in the outskirts of town. It was one of our most memorable meals in Nicaragua and one that you will never find on your own.

Where to start...
My best friend and I did a girl’s trip to Nicaragua. After playing around trying to find options for airport transfer and excursions I came across Nicaraguan Escapade on travel advisor, after reading the amazing reviews I decided to go with them. I reached out to Rodolfo and his response was quick. Communication was constant between us leading up to our trip. I voiced what we would like to do and he was quick to come up with a customised itinerary for us. He will ask for a western union, THIS IS FINE. There is no need to be concerned. Paypal is not set up in Nicaragua and as any tour you book, asking for some sort of payment at booking is normal.
From the beginning of Rodolfo and Francisco picking us up the airport we knew we were in great hands and were about to embark on an amazing trip. They are both welcoming and charismatic gentleman. They were reliable, punctual and everything else you would want in a guide.
From touring Leon, Granada, hiking volcano’s, visiting lagoons, horse carriage rides and boat rides... They went over and beyond for us in every way. Rodolfo and his team blew our expectations out of the water. As far as we were concerned choosing Nicaraguan Escapade is what made our trip! Rodolfo’s passion for his country comes across clearly when he talks about the history, you can’t help but get hypnotised and invested.
Travelling as 2 girls in a different country safety is always a concern. I can’t emphasize enough how safe we felt on all our time with Rodolfo and team. Even when it came to us hiking up Cero Negro and boarding down it.. My friend and I were panicking. Rodolfo and Francisco felt this and were so amazing; they made the hike with us and went down with us. I can honestly say if it wasn’t for them we would have chickened out and missed out one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. They were so unbelievably supportive!!
I could seriously go on and on about our experience with Rodolfo and Nicaraguan Escapade as a hole. As someone who considers herself well traveled, this by far has been my favourite trip and hands down the BEST touring experience. You will not be disappointed, I promise! I would go back to experience more of Nicaragua in a heartbeat and it is all because of Nicaraguan Escapade. They left us wanting more.
When you’re lucky enough to share an experience like this with amazing people as they are, these people stay in your heart. We are so thankful and consider ourselves blessed to have had our Nicaraguan adventure with Nicaraguan Escapade.
