Overview
Packed full of history and charm, your one-hour tour with Charleston Carriage Works will expose fascinating stories of Charleston’s pivotal moments and unique culture. The experience will leave you falling in love with this breathtaking city just as so many have before you.  Boarding adjacent to Market Street, you will start in our stable where you can visit with our horses and then ride along in one of our modern custom carriages to see the sights of Charleston in style. Designed to be lighter and more comfortable than others in town, our garnet and black 16-passenger carriages enable our stunning draft horses to enjoy the tour as much as you will!
Highlights
  • See Charleston just like people did more than 300 years ago—by carriage
  • Learn history as your guide tells stories about the city’s past
  • Get to interact with the horses at the stable
  • Traverse up to 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) of the historic area without walking
  • Children two and under are free when they sit on a parent's lap
What to Expect
For this carriage tour, meet in Charleston's historic district at 20 Anson Street, in the stable opposite Market Street, and get ready to experience the streets the same way as those of the past did—by horse-drawn carriage.
Carriages leave for this guided tour every 30 minutes, and you’ll want to check in 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to turn in your voucher. There is a horse stable at the start of the tour, which you can explore before or after your tour.
Enjoy the views of the historic city from your carriage as your guide, licensed by the city, points out important landmarks and attractions and tells stories from the past. You’ll travel through Charleston’s historic district and cover three to four miles (4.8 to 6.4 kilometers) of its scenic streets.
Your Charleston historical tour ends back where it started—at 20 Anson Street.

We took the tour of zone 5 this am and had a fantastic guide! Masters in English History and American History, so he knew his stuff! My 15 & 17 year old were all ears, and especially loved the story behind their horses. So loved...More

The tours are given out by luck of the draw but I have no doubt our guide would’ve been just as knowledgeable and humorous on any route. We had natives and visitors on our tour and everyone enjoyed the city and learned something new. It...More

Very much enjoyed this horse drawn carriage tour. Very relaxed pace and many details about homes/history of the area were provided. A nice way to start out our trip to Charleston. Located a block from the city market and near lots of good restaurants.

Our tour guide, Dustin, was outstanding! He was very knowledgeable, informative, yet extremely funny. The tour was very educational and entertaining, and never a dull moment! The only drawback was that it was 93 degrees!

. The tour guides are given a numbered ball and this gives them the route they shall take to eliminate congestion in the streets. Suggest you walk the battery after the horse tour and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated... More

Did not see any so I really am not sure. Was not a question I would have asked as we left our dog with family.
