This was a Fantastic Tour of Charleston !! Eric took only 3 of us through old parts of the city and was very knowledgeable about the History and buildings. He allowed us to ask many questions and I felt very comfortable with him. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone even if you have done a tour I believe this would far exceed your last one.

Our long awaited beach vacation in Charleston was interrupted daily by rain, so what's the next best thing? Exploring the Historical Charleston City! On short notice we were able to book a tour with Charleston Old Walled City Walking Tours. Our luck changed when the tour guide Eric arrived at the Meeting Street location. Eric has a PhD. in History and teaches Military/American History (focusing on the Civil War) at one of South Carolina greatest institutions. Eric shared a wealth of knowledge and we gained an appreciation of Charleston that we hadn't previously had. In addition to his knowledge, Eric was a joy to be around, sharing many charming stories aligned with the nooks and crannies of Charleston. In short, Charleston Old Walled City Walking Tours made our vacation, and we would highly recommend them!
Thank you Charleston Old Walled City Walking Tours!

This was an informative and enjoyable tour. Our guide, Erik, was not only knowledgeable, but truly shared his passion of history in a personable and engaging way. Adults and history buffs will get the most out of this tour that dives deep into the extensive history and full 2-hour time frame. Wear comfortable shoes as Erik will lead you down cobblestone streets, alleyways, and uneven sidewalks, all while answering all of our questions and providing fascinating commentary on our surroundings. The best guide I’ve ever had in all my travels! I highly recommend this small company doing big things for visitors to this beautiful, historical city.

Eric is is a college history teacher with several post graduate degrees in history. He gave accurate historical information and avoided too many references to movies shot in the area, and other sensational stories. He made history come alive and if we asked questions it was obvious he knew much more than he could impart to us on a two hour tour. The other family with us had young children and had to leave after two hours. Eric offered to show us a few more sites which we really appreciated. This tour company strives to keep the groups small to insure a quality experience. Five star experience!!!

We had the absolute best experience with Eric! He is knowledgeable & personable and we felt like old friends immediately. We loved how Eric took us to both the usual historic sites, and also to see off the beaten track examples of architecture and history. Our group was small, so we had the opportunity to chat and share anecdotes about local lore and leaders. Eric made Charleston's history come alive for us in an entertaining and approachable way. We highly recommend booking a tour with this company. You can definitely tell they pride themselves on a fun, educational experience that will leave you feeling like you you've seen the best the Holy City has to offer!

What an awesome review! When I train my guides, I make sure that their goal is to educate, entertain and inform: Educate by providing factual history in a format that encourages learning. Entertain by framing the narrative in humor when appropriate, and including amusing lore and anecdotes. Informing by making recommendations for restaurants, shopping , museums etc. Eric excels, and we are proud to have him as a team member! Thanks for choosing us, and send your friends!

We had the good fortune to book a tour with Eric as our guide. It was a small group so we were able to fully experience the history of this old city at a very personal level. Eric’s knowledge and love of history were evident as he took the time to answer questions and tell stories that made the tour come alive for us. If you are looking to learn true history and not just a list of dates and events, this tour is a must! Ask, his recommendation to go to The Blind Tiger for lunch and drinks was spot on. Thanks Eric!

We had the pleasure of spending a few hours exploring Charleston's beautiful Historic District with our amazing guide, Eric recently on May 20th! The experience was not only educational but quite entertaining.

We started our adventure on Meeting Street and wound our way through the Historic District marveling at the cobblestone streets, hidden alleyways, period architecture, and eventually ended our tour at The Battery. Along the way, Eric shared interesting stories about the past inhabitants of Charleston. We learned about Charlestonians from all walks of life, including folks who fought in the Revolutionary or Civil Wars, wealthy rice planters and plantation owners, merchants, as well as the urban enslaved people that were bought and sold in Antebellum Charleston.

One of my favorite highlights was a trip inside St. Michael's Episcopal Church where we were in awe of the breathtaking Tiffany stained glass windows and the historic wooden pews. Eric then led us to a nondescript parking lot which proved to be an outstanding vantage point to get a perfect photo of St. Michael's iconic white spire. I also enjoyed walking by the sweetgrass artisans selling their baskets across the street from St. Michael's and am happy to report that one of Miss Ruth's handmade baskets now resides in Austin, TX.

Eric shared a notebook of maps and photos that helped us envision the old walled city. In addition to sharing so many fun facts and interesting stories, he flawlessly fielded questions and provided very insightful answers. Additionally, when my husband asked for some Charleston historical reading recommendations, Eric gave him several.

This was by far one of the best tours we've ever taken in our travels. We will definitely book another tour on our next visit to Charleston and I highly encourage everyone to spend a few hours exploring Charleston with Eric or Al.

This tour was not only informative and fun, but also a great activity to do when first arriving to town. Eric, our tour guide is the real deal and his knowledge and love of Charleston is engaging and in my opinion captures the essence of the city.
My husband and I wanted an overview of Charleston and the historical events that had taken place there as well as to see some areas that we may not have discovered on our own. Taking a tour often gives insite on historical tidbits that we would not have known nor been able to guess. Walking tours in general take you into special places that are often not accessible by bus or transport.
I can't recommend this tour enough and the best part of it was Eric. Having a professor of history and one that has his advanced degrees on the history of South Carolina makes for a pretty unique tour experience. Thanks Eric!

Our walking tour of Charleston was fun, engaging and full of historical insights and anecdotes. Our guide Al, was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share the story of Charleston with us. He will even customize the experience for you based on your interests. I highly recommend the tour if you really want to learn the fine details rather than just get the highlights as you fly by on a carriage or bus tour. The walk was led at a pleasant pace and not too rigorous. Even our 14 year old and 19 year old had a great time and were entertained and engaged the whole time.

Thank you for the excellent review. A walking tour should be about the big picture and the details. Our fascinating history and so many intact buildings on site makes for a great learning experience., and we are so glad you enjoyed!

Our guide Eric (who holds a Ph.D. in American history) was very knowledgeable about the city and its history. The small group setting (we were a group of just five) was a pleasant surprise and provided a greater opportunity to ask questions. This walking tour is a must-do if you want to learn about and explore Charleston.
