Mt. St. Helens

Took the Mt St Helens tour. Marcus showed us the best views the mountain has to offer. Very knowledgeable and fun to spend the day with. Hiking was great! Even crawled threw a lava tube. Very good deal for the price you pay. Would highly recommend. Thanks again!

Beautiful views

The tour ran even tough there was only the 2 of us. Marcus, our guide, told us all about the history region and the geology. The perfect combination of action and gorgeous views.

Beautiful views, hike in an old growth forest and an abundance of history
Oct 2019
Marcus arrived timely for the pickup and gave a good overview of our day as we set off. The stop at Windy Ridge offers a nice walk through the woods along a sturdy boardwalk. Hiking Ape Caves was an adventure and a geologic marvel when you understand how the cave formed. The devastation of the 1980 explosion is still apparent almost 30 years later as you wind along the road to the overlook. The view of the crater and lake are beautiful from the parking lot and the hilltop observation point. Our mile long hike through old forest gave an up close view of the massive Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar and Alaska Spruce trees. What a contrast to the poor soil conditions near the volcano!

Awesome Tour of St Helens
Marcus was a wonderful, knowledgable and entertaining guide to Mt St Helens volcano and the aftermath of the 1980 eruption. This was an adventure tour that included visits to Johnson Ridge Observation point, the State Visitors Center, an excursion into Ape Cave as well as walks to the Lava Canyon. Marcus is very knowledgable about geology as well as botany of the area. This is a tour worth taking.

A perfect way to spend a beautiful day with friends and family!
Aug 2019
I lived in Portland for 15 years without ever really visiting Mt. St. Helen's and then I moved to NYC. On a trip back to visit in August, I booked this tour with Terran Travels as a way to immerse myself in the incredible beauty of the Pacific Northwest while spending quality time with friends and family on my birthday. FABULOUS DECISION! We crawled through lava tubes, took a 45 minute pitch-dark hike (with headlamps) into a cave, marveled at the terrifying beauty of Mt. St. Helens, hiked through an old-growth forest, chatted amongst ourselves during the stunning drive, and learned so much from our brilliant guides, Marcus and Taryn. Marcus has a PhD in forest ecology and he taught us more about nature than I think I ever learned in school. Taryn had our kids running and leaping through the forest. The tour van was clean and comfortable, food was great, and I can't imagine a better way to spend a birthday. You definitely get what you paid and more - we left early in the morning and came back in the evening and I loved every minute of it.

This tour was everything I had hoped for and more. Marcus is extremely knowledgeable, and we learned so much about Mt St Helens and the surrounding area. He was flexible and accommodating, and made the day so special. We had fun, adventure, and saw parts of the country we'd never seen. I would give it a 10 star rating if I could!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Farah! Marcus said the mother-son chemistry on that tour really got him in the groove, as he'd just taken family on a field trip earlier in the week, including several boys! He really enjoyed Case's inquisitive nature!

An ABSOLUTE Must!
Wow. Where do I even start? What a magnificent experience and adventure! Marus and Taryn were the best (and most know knowledgeable) tour guides I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with! Their brilliant souls and minds radiated with a plethora of wealth and trivia about the surrounding landscape, terrain and natural events that occured over the centuries in order to grace us with the majestic views, information and sights I marveled and gawked at on this tour. Their compassion and humanity were evident in every moment, having a true love for the earth and a respect for our environment, mother nature and planet earth. I will most definitely be booking more tours with this company, and I highly recommend you doing the same! What a soul-touching and mind blowing experience and adventure! I must add, the tour van was comfortable and roomy and offered a smooth ride. Lunch was provided and was absolutely delicious, and there were plenty of stops for accommodations to everyone in our party. What REALLY sets this company apart from all the others is the tour guides themselves! They were born for this life and it shows! See you again soon, no doubt for tour #2!

Great experience
Aug 2019
I had an amazing time on this tour and Marcus was a great guide and extremely accommodating. First, he didn't get my dietary preferences until the night before and still managed to make sure I had lunch and snacks available by the next morning. We actually ended up running over the stated and time because Marcus was willing to take us through the upper Ape cave tube and showed us the variety of landscapes in the area with Lava canyon and the Trail of Two Forests. He also made sure to give us good grounding of geology to understand the history of the area and the natural attractions of various berries and 'tutti frutti' bugs.
The only slight disappointment was low cloud giving us a slightly obscured view of the North side of the crater but we did get a good, clear view of the South side later on. Overall, the only thing which would have made this a perfect tour was if Marcus could control the weather! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to fully understand and experience the area.
