    Excellent guide.
Eileen, our guide, was thoroughly informed on all aspects of Edward Hopper's art and his life. She was enthusiastic which certainly elevated our experience at the museum.

Nice but not sure worth a visit
We visitors usually know that visiting the houses of artists may not always be as fulfilling as seeing the artworks because studies center do not have enough founds to own them. It is the case for the Hopper House indeed. On the other hand it was nice to see the house and the town since it recalls his inspiration. There was a good video about his life. Sadly people at the entrance -including the receptionist- were so loud that some parts where inaudible. If there were to be more data or any kind of information regarding his life and work it would be much better. I am not sure it is worth the trip from NYC.

Well worth the trek from New York City!
Loved being in the environment where so many of his paintings come from. He is one of my favorite artists. Really enjoyed it.

    Enjoyable and informative
Our visit to the Edward Hopper House was terrific! The house is on a residential street, very accessible with a nice garden in the back. The docent, Eileen, was gracious, welcoming and very knowledgeable. Don't expect to see original Hopper paintings. Those were all left to the Whitney in NYC. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

    Wonderful tour
The tour and museum were fascinating. So happy I spontaneously made the trip over from across the Hudson River. I spent about two hours, first watching the film (narrated by Steve Martin) about Hopper's life and influences, then listening to the well-informed, friendly docent, and then exploring on my own. There are drawings from Hopper's childhood, artwork by his wife, Jo, and a small gift shop. There was a separate photography exhibit about cafeterias in New York City that was a wonderful complement to Hopper. I loved seeing so much of his work in the film, and hearing about his work, marriage, and family. You can stand in his childhood bedroom and imagine the view he saw of the Hudson with the light reflecting on the waves. Eileen, our tour guide, was charming and welcoming and recommended a great lunch spot (the Art House Cafe) and gave me a tip about where to park without being charged.

    A CHARMING AND INSTRUCTIVE EXPERIENCE
We learned about Hopper, saw early work we had not known about, and toured his home. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic- a dynamic combination. Nyack itself was a surprise, as we admired old homes and river views. All in all,a great experience.

A hop across the river for the Hopper Museum.
If you like Hopper, you'll love the museum. It's small, but comprehensive, with lots of information about his early days in Nyack. There's also a great video for visitors to get the story on his entire career, with insights about him and his art. We were also threated to a display of photos by Marcia Bricker Halperin, recalling a vanished era of NewYork (that we could actually remember!) After your visit, there are many great choices in town for lunch or dinner. We delayed going for years. Don't you!

A visit to the birthplace of Edward Hopper.
What a nice museum! We were greeted by a friendly and knowledgable staff member who set up a short film for us to watch that was very informative. A visit to this gem of a museum and town provided good insight into the beginnings of Edward Hopper's artistic talent. Beautiful views of the Hudson River and an easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants in the heart of Nyack. We also visited the nearby cemetery where Hopper and his wife are buried.

    Birthplace of Edward Hopper
He was born in this house! A friend wanted to check it out. I didn't really know much about Hopper before going. It was so interesting. The house is in tremendous shape considering its age. There were not any major works of art on display but it was cool to learn about his life and impacts and see these rooms up close and personal. The docent even let us see the room where they keep all the research about him and his original drawing table. Definitely worth stopping in!

Great perspective on Hopper and a fun day out in Nyack
The Edward Hopper House & Study Center is an excellent way to engage with the painter and learn more about his life and work. With changing exhibitions and tours, you can also gain get a better understanding of his wife, the painter Josephine Hopper, as well as other family and community members. The center was formerly a private home so the size is quite manageable; there is an excellent walking tour of the Nyack area (beautiful river town with many scenic views, restaurants and shops) and a short biographical film narrated by Steve Martin. There are also outdoor public programs and events.

Make this part of your visit to Nyack
Lovely small museum in the heart of Nyack, NY. We had a light lunch at a local cafe then walked down to the Hopper House. The house was the childhood home of Edward Hopper and there is a small exhibit of his childhood drawings. Highlight of the visit was a very well-done video about Hopper's life, what influenced him and how his work evolved. Do not go expecting to see much of his famous art which is mostly at the Whitney Museum and other museums and private collections. But if you appreciate 19th century architecture and want to learn more about the man and his life, this is the place to go. Takes about 30-45 minutes to go through everything including the video.

    Absolute Must-see for Hopper Fans
Visiting the Edward Hopper House’s "Boyhood" exhibition provided me with an insight of Hopper's beginnings. I learned how his upbringing informed his work. One of my favorites was seeing his paint box. I think a visit to the Edward Hopper House Museum should be on every Hopper fan's list. Also, Eileen was the best in showing me around and provided so much information. What a pleasure!

    Very educational
I loved learning about Edward Hopper's childhood and seeing where he lived and created as a child. The video, which offered the background on his life, was excellent and was perfectly paired with walking through his childhood home. I also loved the room that was provided to make your own artwork! A wonderful addition to the experience.

A terrific museum visit that helped me develop a much more thorough and nuanced appreciation of Hopper -- I say that as someone already pretty well-versed in 20th century art. Everything is well-curated and informative. My children were surprisingly well-behaved as well -- the museum does a great job of trying to engage younger visitors. While it's a small museum, it's very easy to linger for a good while. Standouts include the very accomplished artwork Hopper's mother did as an eight-year-old, Hopper's childhood sketch of a boy along the river on the back of his elementary school report card, and many ofd the early sketches that formed the basis of later famous paintings. Hopper's bedroom with the view of the Hudson and the distinctive light was very engaging. I only wish there was also a museum down the road in Joseph Cornell's boyhood home, also in Nyack, but not open to the public.

If you are a Hopper fan, a trip to his birthplace and childhood/ancestral home is an obligation. The house museum has been open for 50 years, and it was on my bucket lists for decades. There is not a lot of original artwork exhibited, but you get a feel for the space he grew up in. His bedroom was teeming with winter sunshine on our visit, and one could see how a painter of shadows and light would have absorbed a lot from living in that room. The docent Ilene (Eileen?) explained that the neighborhood is different from Hopper’s young years when an orchard grew all the way to the Hudson which afforded Hopper a panoramic view that has disappeared. There is a movie to watch about Hopper and a gift shop with some choice merch. We made a whistle stop visit due to our schedule, but I am glad that this house is still standing and giving testament to the environment that shaped one of America’s best 20th century artists.

A delightful museum near Westchester County (just across the Tappan Zee Bridge). The house gives you a sense of what it was like when Hopper lived there. Informative video playing in one of the rooms; there was a very good photography exhibit on loan from another museum. Cute gift shop and very helpful staff (Eileen?). A nice thing to do in an afternoon. Highly Recommend

Edward Hopper House offers a unique and intimate experience. Enjoyed insightful video. Private tour and stories by passionate local visitor guide Eileen made it EXTRA SPECIAL. Eileen, thank you so much for generosity of your time.
Walking tour gave me an opportunity to explore Hopper’s surroundings and gain better understanding of the context in which his — especially early — works were produced.

An excellent way to spend a day in the suburbs of NYC. It’s a MUST for every enthusiast of Hopper’s work.

It was a magical experience! We were met by two wonderful ladies guides who represented the local non-governmental organization which runs the Hopper House Museum. One of them told us the story of the house and the Hopper family. We were impressed by the way the house has been renovated with attention to every detail and respect for the historical nature of the place. We watched a very interesting video material containing the artist's personal story and his achievements told by art critics. It was very touching to see Hoppers personal space, objects and his early sketches. We liked the fact that there is an art gallery in the house where works of contemporary artists is presented. The current exhibit shows paintings by an artist strongly inspired by the works of Edward Hopper. We liked them very much! The visit was an overall great experience. Thank you!

Atmospheric and beautifully restored and adapted small Hudson Valley house, full of memorabilia. The introductory video is well worth viewing before touring Hopper's birthplace and home; none of his mature works are displayed here but some wonderful juvenilia, and the video shows some of his celebrated oils and watercolor,s runs through his development as an artist and conveys his unique view of his American landscape, human, architectural and maritime. It's a calm, silent , enigmatic house, filled with light - rather like the artist himself, though his calmness may have been a facade for alienation, a theme of some of his work. A very enjoyable couple of hours.

Loved the intimate feel of the home, seeing Hoppers bedroom that may have been such an early inspiration for his work. Enjoyed early sketches of his and how he viewed his surroundings. Also greatly enjoyed learning about his family and wife. Her work in comparison to his was intriguing. Bonus to see other artists influenced by him. Double bonus you can photograph everything!

This was our second visit to the Edward Hopper House in Nya k ,NY. This time we brought family from abroad. They were very enthusiastic about our visit. We viewed the 28 minute Video, narrated by Steve Martin which added to our enjoyment and taught us a lot about the artist and what influenced him.Edward Hopper HouseAlthough the Hopper House has few originals, the house itself, hostesses and overall ambiance are unique features of the tour. We left with souvenirs and plan to see more originals in NYC.

If Hopper is one of your favorites it is worth a visit to where he began his life as a young boy and remained a home for his sister. You may even learn a thing or two about him as I did and enjoy the variety of photos and artifacts from his life. The young woman who greeted me was so welcoming and will also give suggestions for places to see and eat in Nyack.

Well this was just delightful. A warm, compact history of Edward Hopper's early life and work, lovingly curated in the house he grew up in. And an art workshop for the kids upstairs. A little gem, not to be missed.
