- Ashel920 contributionsOnce in a lifetime Safari Honeymoon!Could not rate ranger safaris high enough!our trip through Tanzania stopping in Tarengire national park, lake Minyara, Ngorogoro crater and the amazing Serengeti. All accommodations were amazing ranging from more high spec to the true camping experience. From start to finish I couldn’t fault any stop. The highlight of the trip for us was the hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti followed by a champagne breakfast- something we will never forget! Special mention to our guide, Issa. Issa was kind, patient, funny and extremely knowledgeable with fantastic eyesight! Issa could spot an animal way before anyone else in our car! We saw all animals we were looking to see plus more! Issa went above and beyond to enhance the experience and get us as close as possible to the animals. He told us so many interesting facts and stories along the way. His driving was also impeccable! This trip was the honeymoon of a lifetime! Be sure to book Issa making your way to the amazing Tanzania!Written 13 March 2025
- Tour507859649160 contributions5-star experience in Tanzania with Ranger Safaris! We recently returned from a Tanzania Wildlife Safari (2/26/25-3/7/25) organized by Orbridge and using Ranger Safaris (Arusha office). We had a great our experience with our driver-guides Jeremiah and Solomon from Ranger Safaris and our expedition leader David from Orbridge. This was the first trip to sub-Saharan Africa for most of us in our group of eleven and it had a huge impact, largely because of the extensive knowledge and wonderful spirit of our drivers and leader. We had two jeeps. Our drivers Jeremiah and Solomon were expert behind the wheel and despite the challenges of the road we never felt uncomfortable. When there was a problem (eg a baboon entered one of the jeeps while we were at lunch), we never heard about it until after Jerry had quietly and expertly remedied the situation. All three knew exactly where to find the animals and how to approach them. Jerry and Solomon went to great efforts to position our jeep for the best viewing and photography. We managed to see all of the big five including a black rhinoceros (rarely spotted), three cheetah brothers, and two leopards snoozing in their respective trees after their nice lunches in addition to many other species. I was in Jerry's truck and can attest to the fact that he was clearly as enthusiastic about these sightings as we were. From his in-depth experience living in the Serengeti he was connected to the land and the animals from the depths of his soul, and beyond his words, he communicated this to us. We learned so much from him. He also had a fantastic sense of humor! Thank you to Ranger Safaris and to Orbridge for an absolutely fabulous introduction to Tanzania which exceeded our expectations. To anyone planning a trip there I would highly recommend Ranger Safaris, our two driver-guides Jeremiah and Solomon, and our expedition leader David from Orbridge.Written 13 March 2025
- Excursion173980 contributions10/10!We booked through Trailfinders in the UK, and they arranged Ranger for us. We hit the jackpot and had the most amazing week! Ahmed, our driver guide, arranged everything and we felt very comfortable, saw all the animals we could imagine (and more), learned a huge amount and had a very memorable time. Ahmed is a great driver, excellent host, respectful person, and very knowledgeable. He gauged everything just about right for us, and we could not fault a thing! Absolute legend. Comfortable Landcruiser which was perfect for us. So pleased we had a private safari too! Accommodation was also very good. We were pleased we stayed the first night in Arusha after our overnight flights so that we could acclimatise. Julius from Ranger came to brief us there, which was really helpful. Highlights: breakfast picnic overlooking a group of hippos in the water. The view and sunrise over Ngorongoro Crater (amazing!). Stopping for a coffee near a pond where Maasai lads brought their cattle to drink. Witnessing migrating wildebeest. Cheetahs under a tree. Heading out early and watching a pride of lions protecting their kill from hyenas. Baboons at Manyara. Hundreds of elephants at Tarangire. A long list…. Ahmed went the extra mile every day to make it an excellent trip, and he succeeded 100%. He even helped me with my Swahili language endeavours. Wholeheartedly recommend Ranger!Written 1 March 2025
- Siobhan W0 contributionsA once in a lifetime safari, incredible guide, strategic planning, superb accommodation and excellent drivingA once in a lifetime safari, incredible guide, strategic planning, superb accommodation and excellent driving, some of the tracks were very challenging. We got to see so many animals and within the first two days we got to see all big five in their natural habitat. We were assigned Issa for our week who is very experienced and knowledgeable. Issa has excellent english so we had good communication with him. We were met on morning of our arrival by Selena as we exited the terminal who drove us to the Arusha Serena Hotel close to Lake Duluti where we overnighted. Selina stopped off enroute to enable us have our photos taken with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Selena gave us our safari itinerary to go over in advance of our Safari briefing that afternoon by a representative from Ranger Safaris. The representative went through our itinerary with us to insure everything was in order and explained our safari to us and informed us our driver for the week would be Issa. Following an early breakfast we were collected by Issa and departed for Ngorongoro Conservation Area passing through the Masai Steppe with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantation. Issa was very informative and filled us in on the history and culture of Africa along with local information. We arrived at Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge in time for lunch. After breakfast Issa collected us and we departed for a crater tour with a picnic lunch packed by the Oldeani Mountain Lodge. Issa gave us the history of the Ngorongoro Crater as we were driving there and answered the many questions I asked him! (there were many) We stopped at the viewing point at the top (the rim) to take in the amazing view before descending to the crater where we saw a plethora of animals. Our guide Issa, was an excellent driver (passing slow cars, knowing how long it would be from where we were headed each stop, and navigating some very bumpy roads!) he was also an amazing spotter and really seemed to try and base our trip off what we wished to see, lingering at the elephants moving along with others. We got to see a Lioness with a gazelle she had killed pass just in front of our jeep. We watched as she made her way in our direction cross the road and go off with the gazelle. Issa was great on all the different animals and birds pointing each one out to us and telling us about them. We also saw a Lion resting. We saw other lionesses stalk a herd of zebra but called it off as they had been spotted by the zebra. We also saw herds of elephants. The scenery was gorgeous. The following day was our longest drive, to the Serengeti National Park. We were collected early in the morning by Issa, it was interesting the whole way. It was incredible to see the massive herds of zebra and wildebeests cross the road in front of us. Issa explained how they were migrating. Just before we entered the Serengeti National Park we visited a Maasai village where we got a glimpse into their culture, unique way of life and see first hand their customs and practices. Issa spotted another Lion resting underneath a large tree on the side of the road after we entered the Serengeti National Park, it was great to get so close to one. We saw herds of giraffes. We also got up close to see a leopard resting on a tree which we beautiful to see. We also got to see a young male cheetah calling out for his brothers alongside a large herd of wildebeests. We saw enormous herds of wildebeests and zebra here. Issa was very respectful and courteous towards the animals at all times especially when they were crossing in front of our jeep. After our game drive Issa drove us to the Serengeti Ole Sarai Moru Kopje Luxury Camp, arriving in time for dinner where we stayed for three nights. We spotted more animals on our way there. Around the camp we spotted a lion roaming, gazelles and heard rhinos at night, but we were safe in the knowledge knowing the camp had 24 hour security roaming the site. By this stage we had seen all big five. The following morning we were collected by Issa for a morning and afternoon game drive bringing packed lunches with us. We drove around Central and Southern Serengeti. Again we saw a plethora of animals and birds. We spotted a pride of lionesses including cubs. They were strategically stalking their prey and were successful in bringing two zebras down for food. The cubs were being trained by their mothers how to hunt. We witnessed both of these hunts close up thanks to Issa’s expertise. Whilst it was hard to watch close up, this is nature at work. Afterwards we returned to our camp after another exhausting but fulfilling day. We had an early start the following morning for our Hot Air Balloon Flight - A Safari from the Sky (Miracle Experience) we saw some breathtaking views including the migration of zebras and wildebeests, gazelles and elephants. We had the most amazing sunrise. After our Hot Air Balloon flight were treated to champagne, bush breakfast and received certificates of completion. After our Hot Air Balloon flight, we were collected by Issa and did another game drive for the afternoon around central Serengeti where visited the rhino pool and also saw crocodiles on the bank. We also saw herds of giraffes and elephants. We got to see a family of elephants up real close where they crossed the road in front of our jeep, there were two very young calves with them which was lovely to see as it’s difficult to see them so clearly as they’re very protective of them. Afterwards we headed back to our camp after another amazing day. At our final evening meal we were presented with a farewell cake together with the Hakuma Matata by the staff. The following morning Issa collected us and brought us to the Seronera Air Strip, where he checked us in and looked after us as we were traveling on to Zanzibar. I would like to say, on behalf of Tom and I were very well looked after the whole time by Issa. During the week he took into account all our concerns and wishes, preferences and together with his knowledge and experience we had an amazing safari as demonstrated above. I would totally recommend Ranger Safaris and Issa. It was one of the best trips we’ve ever had. Issa is an excellent ambassador for Ranger Safaris. As we said goodbye to Issa it was like saying goodbye to a family member. Siobhan & TomWritten 23 February 2025
- SusyD2020 contributionsWonderful experienceMy husband and I, from Italy, are both keen on wildlife photography and asked our longtime South African tour operator, Live the Journey, to organize a 12 night private tour in Tanzania, specifically to the Ndutu Ngorongoro area and the Serengeti. We had been to Tanzania several other times and had clearly in mind what we were looking for. Except for our flight from Europe, the tour was fully handled by Ranger Safaris of Arusha: domestic flight into the park (arrival in Ndutu and departure from Seronera), ground transportation on a quite new Toyota, lodging, extra water supplies, bean bags to support our cameras. Everything worked perfectly. Ahmed has been a fantastic guide. Excellent driver in all the different and difficult road conditions we experienced, reliable, knowledgeable, flexible, with a great attention to the customer, always willing to go the extra mile.Written 18 February 2025
- enzolomb0 contributionsPhotographic SafariWe asked our tour operator Live The Journey in Cape Town to organize a photo safari as we are both passionate wildlife photographers. Ranger Safari in Arusha has organized both domestic air transport, ground transport and lodging. Achmed , our guide and driver has been extraordinarily good for professionalism, competence and attention in driving. He also showed a remarkable competence and attention to the needs of nature photographers. He was the best guide we had in our several safari experiences. The car was an almost new Toyota Land Cruiser modified for Safari, very comfortable and clean. The only note is that the side windows were a little small for photography. They also provided fridge, pure water and 4 bean-bags to facilitate the support and stabilization of the camera on the open roof. We can definitely recommend Ranger Safari.Written 17 February 2025
- 137stewartc0 contributionsHoneymoon safariWe had an incredible honeymoon trip with Morris as our guide from Arusha to the Ngorongoro crater and then onto the Serengeti National Park. Morris is a top quality guide! He has an encyclopedic knowledge not only of large and small mammals but also of birds, vegetation and the nation of Tanzania. He was extremely accommodating, knew the roads around the parks incredibly well and had good contacts with the other guides which meant we saw far more than we ever expected! I couldn’t recommend Ranger Safaris enough and would recommend Morris as a guide to anyone. Asante sana!Written 28 January 2025
- williamdC5246XI0 contributionsThe trip of a lifetime-TanzaniaThis was a tremendous experience--all that we could have hoped for and more. We not only saw the "Big 5," but a myriad of other creatures and their complex--sophisticated--interactions. Greatly enhancing the trip was our driver/guide--Deo. He was at once professional, knowledgable and gracious--with a good dose of humor that made all the difference. We learned from him a great deal about the respective habits of the varieties of wildlife as well as their evolutionary interdependency. But it was also his notion that Tanzania was not just about the animals that captivated us and enriched the experience. He stressed also the beauty of nature--the splendor of the setting--and urged us to simply look about and linger on what was before us in the near and far landscape. Those mental snapshots will remain with us forever. Again, a superb experience.Written 27 January 2025
- F1012LOannan0 contributionsA Tanzanian experience beyond expectationsWe booked a tour with Ranger Safari, which included visiting the major parks in Northern Tanzania. We have been extremely satisfied with the tour. Wily, our guide, has been an amazing host. We have appreciated his professionalism, kindness and dedication. Thanks to him, we haven’t missed any of the “big five” and saw much more! At any time, even in bad weather conditions, he made sure that we felt safe and satisfied. Also accommodations and meals included in the package met our expectations. We strongly recommend this trip!Written 25 December 2024
- Stay302005321240 contributionsOnce in a lifetime experienceWe were picked up from Arusha airport by our driver guide Issa. The safari vehicle was going to be our home for the next week. We had a private hire for 2 people, this meant we had loads of space to spread out, move to different seats to get views etc, if your budget can stretch I’d definitely recommend. It was a nice surprise to be picked up by our driver guide Issa from the airport rather than a taxi transfer, this was a nice touch. We did the Serena accommodation safari package so stayed at their accommodations throughout our stay. We first stopped at Serena Arusha, we had a full day here, we were let into our room early but there is very little to do at the hotel, no pool etc, and you have to pay $30pp for a guided walk to the lake. We wished we’d travelled straight to Serena manyara as at least they had a pool and sun loungers to waste an hour in the afternoon. All the accommodation was a good standard, food was mainly chosen off a fixed menu for full board and drinks were extra but fairly reasonable priced. Issa was an excellent driver guide, he’s been doing this for 13 years so has lots of expertise spotting animals and has lots of info about the local geography. Issa was confident to go onto less used roads to spot. The roads are very very bumpy, we weren’t aware quite how harsh the driving would be both on game drives and between destinations. Issa called the roads ‘African massage’ so be prepared! There are lots of opportunities to stop for loo breaks throughout your stay, there were also coffee shops and souvenir shops at some of the bigger stops. Issa was incredible at spotting animals from a distance, whilst also navigating bumpy and winding roads, he’s a credit to the company. Although seeing the animals is mainly down to luck (right place, right time), We spoke to other groups and they hadn’t seen what we had seen on our days out, so we are incredibly grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity to do our safari with Ranger Safari and more specifically our driver guide Issa. We saw the big 5 during our trip and much much more. Thank youWritten 12 December 2024

- marciam9740 contributionsThe best experience ever! We've not long returned from our first safari adventure in Northern Tanzania. We visited Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It was simply the best holiday experience and enhanced by Ranger Safaris. Incredibly well organised from the pick up at Kilimanjaro Airport to the drop off at Arusha for our flight to Zanzibar. We were a group of 4 and Festo was our ranger guide, he was incredibly knowledgeable, a great driver and just an all around lovely guy. We were in a group of 4 vehicles, they all worked incredibly well together and we almost felt like a family in our adventures. We were lucky enough to see the Big 5 (just about saw the black rhino!) and all the other animals we wanted to. I think the only negative thing we can say is that we stayed in Arusha at the Serena for one night - so we were there for most of our arrival day and until lunchtime the following. We did feel a bit trapped as there really is nothing to do there. Thank you Ranger Safaris - you were amazing!Written 7 December 2024
- Anders H0 contributionsOutstanding three-park photo safari in TanzaniaThe safari was the second element of a 19-day Kilimanjaro/Safari trip for my adult son and myself, arranged by Sated Ventures. Ranger Safaris handled all transportation and guiding pre- and post the Kili climb. Pre-Kili, RS took us to Gibbs Farm in the Ngorongoro highlands, as part of the altitude acclimatization step. Program actiivities at the lodge were managed by GF. The comprehensive safari component began at the conclusion of the climb, and included Tarangeri, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara National Parks. Our Guide and driver, Lameck Mariki, was a very experienced naturalist, who brought us to near and far sightings of wildlife, unique to the different parks. Both my son and I are photographers, traveling with heavy camera equipment, and when faced with an object, need both patience and precise adjustments of the vehicle. Lameck was a master of both! With only the three of us in the safari vehicle, we were able to make route changes on the spur of the moment, which led to rich and very productive (from a photographic standpoint) game drives. Lameck is a personable, friendly and jovial individual who apparently knew nearly all drivers of other groups, and was able to glean information about game sightings when meeting them on the park trails. He kept a meticulously clean car, operated it with admirable skill, and shared his wealth of knowledge during game drives as well as on park-to-park transits. As always, our long held view that the most important factor in successful travel, is an excellent, personable and professional guide, again proved true. The wildlife profiles of the three parks we visited (two of which I had visited twice previously) were to some degree overlapping with elephant, buffalo, lion, hyena, hippo, warthogs, mongoose and ungulates, seen in all. Their behaviors differed based on adaptations to biotopes. We observed large herds of elephants, bathing at great length, both in Tarangeri and Lake Manyara. We also photographed tree climbing lions in these parks. Black rhino was only sighted in Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara offered a more diverse and vibrant bird fauna than the other two parks. Only in Ngorongora was there a clear evidence of migrating wildebeast. In all, our experience with Ranger Safaris was outstanding, and in large part to the credit of Lameck Mariki. A comfortable vehicle, adaptable to photo enthusiasts’ needs, expert diriving, timely pick-ups and informative communication made this Tanzanian safari (the first for my son and the fourth for me) a highly memorable experience. We will warmly recommend Ranger Safaris to all visitors to Tanzania - first-timers as well as returning tourists!Written 3 December 2024
- Penny W0 contributionsProfessional and well organisedWe have just returned from a very special holiday in Tanzania and Kenya co-ordinated and hosted by Ranger Safaris. We were greeted at Kilimanjaro airport and transferred to Four Points by Sheraton hotel … this wouldn’t have been our 1st choice of hotel as it was very corporate and town centre in location however after a very long and tiring journey it was clean and comfortable. We were met by a lovely lady from Rager Safaris, Jessica, who ran through our itinerary she was very professional and made sure we understood our meeting times for the following day’s. Issa our wonderful guide collected us the following morning and our wonderful adventure began … he quickly understood us as a group and cottoned on to our unique sense of humour…something very important when you are to spend several days in close company with a group. We drove to our 1st fabulous location Manyara Lake View Oasis, brilliant choice given time for a super lunch and relax by the pool we were collected and taken for our first game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Issa proved to be interesting and informative. We have all been on many safaris and he is a very good guide. The following day we set off through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti… it was a very long hard journey however it was so worth it when we got there and Issa ensured we had the right amount of comfort breaks.. the last part our journey turned into a spectacular game drive with fantastic sightings of Lions Cheetah’s and Elephants… again Issa proved to be exceptional. We arrived Angeta Serengeti Camp another really good choice of camp with amazing tented accommodation we had 2 nights here and it felt like home. We had two full days of game drives the 2nd day Issa had tailored specifically for us to avoid the really hard road that we had arrived on to take us back to our last stop the Ngorongoro Crater such a wonderful spectacular place we stayed at Ngorongoro Serena a lovely hotel again a lovely choice from Ranger Safaris. We had two further nights before returning to Arusha to a really lovely meeting point the Coffee House this also seemed to be a hotel… it looked really wonderful we had a great lunch here said a fond goodbye to Issa our amazing guide and met up with lovely Jessica again she introduced us to our driver who was returning us to the airport. Our whole experience was wonderfully well organised any assistance was readily available and Ranger Safaris obviously have a wealth of experience Thank you all so very much definitely 5 stars xxxWritten 20 November 2024

Thou I have visited Prison island a few times already, it’s always nice to see it through another’s eyes. The trip through small boats is safe, we travelled with young children under 10 years. What I noticed was the water current is higher toward the end of the day, so perhaps not the very ideal time to travel!
The peacock addition makes the place even more interesting!

We booked through our hotel $20 pp with the main purpose of seeing the huge tortoises. The 30 min boat ride was beautiful across crystal clear waters. When we arrived the beach was breathtaking and it seems odd that it is not more popular to stay there. The tortoises are amazing, some 160yrs old and it was fun to feed them at 10:30am. They do look for donations as you exit but whether the money is really used as they say you'll never know.

We started our Half Day Tour to Prison Island just after breakfast where the representative of the Blue Agent Tours and Safaris picked us up. The trip was organized perfectly with our private boat and private guid dedicated only for us :) Full luxury and exclusivity. We used this agent since we have been picked up form the airport till the end of our stay, with sightseeing of Stone Town, Prison Island tour, pick up and drop off to the hotel in the other part of the island. The staff is extremely kind and trustful. I can not imagine visiting all those places on our own - wast of time...The Prison Island brought us a very unique experience, boat trip app. 40 minutes with amazing views and the island itself like heaven ! But the biggest surprise were the turtles so friendly and accessible some of theme at the age of almost 200 years. So happy had a chance to meet them :) Followed by sightseeing and swimming in the turquoise waters of the little beautiful island. Agnieszka & Mouhamed from Dubai

I think the other reviewers were correct when they said the boat ride to and from the island were the best parts. The water is a beautiful colour and you get nice shots of the island and Zanzibar. The prison is kind of lame - I did a guided tour - I wasn't really told much and it doesn't seem like any of it (open to the public at least) has been maintained for historical accuracy. The turtle enclosure... well it's not as bad as some of the other reviews make out, there is a bit of space for them to roam around, the younger turtles are segregated in pens - these aren't particularly great. On the way out, locals will try to get you to "donate to the turtles" - this is a scam, apparently this money is taken by them. The beach looks nice, albeit small. I mean, if you have nothing to do then I guess go? Otherwise, you aren't really missing much.

I was there twice, and would definitely go again. Excellent place for swimming/snorkelling, mesmerising ocean views from what was intended to be a prison, great fun interacting with those giant tortoises! It doesn't really matter which guide you decide to go with, the program is the same for everybody.

This is a good tour and worth the time. The giant tortoises are unique and the history of the place is interesting. The children traveling with me all fed the tortoises some lettuce. I saw a lot of fish and coral while snorkeling. Note: the snorkeling is off the boat, not the shore. Someone may find it difficult to climb back up the short ladder to the boat.
Juma was our guide and he was very friendly and attentive.

Our host for the tour was Ahmada. He was excellent, great customer service and very knowledgable. We were collected from our hotel and returned as part of the cost and the island itself is a must see if you are travelling to Zanzibar! I would highly recommend this trip and ask for Ahmada if you are going. 5*.

Overpriced — this is a tiny island with not much to see. Our guide didn't even flag the museum. It was definitely underwhelming.

Hi, just asking about the pick up, we live in nungwi in highland bungalows and wonder if you pick up from that area and if its included in the price or we pay an extra amount?
