Meet our pick-up truck at the reception of your hotel at the set time (8am, 10am or 4.30pm) for the transfer to the stables.
After a smooth 10 minutes drive, you will arrive at the riding centre, into the lushy green Bothanical Garden, where you will meet our Lusitanos, cross Arabian and Berber horses.
The istructor will make the comprehensive safety briefing while the guides will finish to prepare and tack the horses for you.
Basic knowledge and important tips will be given to the novice riders in order to have a fun and safe ride.
At the reception area, lockers will be at your disposal to leave your belongings and CE certified riding helmets will be given to you prior the ride (mandatory).
The group of max 6 riders will be lead by several guides on horseback (1:2 ratio) to make sure that the ride will be tailored according your respective riding skills.
Now the adventure can start!
All trails starts with an easy and gentle ride across the desert formed by the Sahara Desert sand carried by trade winds.
Leave your tracks on the sand dunes and you will arrive at the "Big Salt Mines of Santa Maria" where local people work everyday to satisfy the demand of salt for the whole archipelago.
Riding up a small hill where you will find an amazing view of the salt pans.
If you are taking part on the 1,5h or the 2h trails, you will leave the Salt Flats behind and you will head up to Costa da Fragata, better known as Kite Beach for the great number of kite surfers that during the windy season fill up the sky with their colorful kites.
An endless golden sand beach trek awaits where you will hear the roar of the waves and the most experienced riders will have the chance to gallop through the surf. Less experienced riders or those who just want to relax and enjoy the landscape will ride gently along the shore at walking gait with the assistance of the guides. Once you arrive at the foot of the Serra Negra Natural Reserve you will head back to the stables riding through flat land with green bushes and a small creek where it is common to meet cows, donkeys and endemic birds of Cape Verde.
Back at the stables you can say thanks to your horse with apples and cuddles beore being driven back to your hotel.
