- H4406HCjoannel0 contributionsOnce in a lifetime experienceGreat excursion with staff who couldn't be more helpful and knowledgeable. Loved seeing the sharks from the cage and boat.Written 12 November 2024
- sarahmT3766FB0 contributionsToo many people in a small boat20 passengers and 5 crew members were jammed on a small fishing boat and I constantly felt uncomfortable, believing that the boat will capsize based on the wind, the waves, and the number of people on the boat. The passengers were terrible to me and the crew gave me little to no assurance of my safety or comfort. Although I did get to enjoy seeing a shark up close for the first time, the passengers were making the experience worse. I will not recommend this company program to anyone if they don’t want to be cramped in a small boat with too many people, in the middle of the ocean with high winds and rough waves thrashing the boat around.Written 25 October 2024
- am_tallentire0 contributionsHighly recommend!Absolutely amazing experience volunteering with the crew at WSP! The team go above and beyond to deliver an unforgettable experience, whilst doing great work for conservation, animal welfare, and community engagement.Written 3 September 2024
- Dreamer592969326000 contributionsA once in a lifetime experienceVolunteering for White Shark Projects was a special experience I got to have on a university trip with GAP AFRICA. A once in a lifetime experience, one which I never want to forget. I got to do things I never thought I would and it has helped me grow as a person. The company and crew are so amazing and made the trip so much more memorable. I’m so thankful for everyone at White Shark Projects and glad I got to experience for myself.Written 3 September 2024
- 254magnusf0 contributionsVolunteering Experience.I spent five months working as a volunteer for White Shark Projects and it was one of the most incredible experiences I have had in my life. As somebody planning to pursue marine biology as a career, it was an invaluable insight into the workings of conservation and marine ecosystems, and gave me critical knowledge concerning sharks from people who have spent many many years in the field. Every crew member is very helpful and welcoming, it would be impossible to dislike the experience even if you get seasick. 10/10, will definitely return in the future.Written 6 April 2024
- angie m0 contributions5 HR round trip from Cape town, but worth itThis was a great day out, but be prepared for a very early start if you are coming from CT, pick up was at 4am ISH, the boat and cage were all very safe and it was great as my husband who is a non swimmer felt comfortable enough to get into the cage. A light breakfast was provided and we took some seasickness meds before boarding but the conditions were smooth and probably didn't need them. All equipment was provided such as wetsuit and mask and everyone got a turn in the water. Now the unfortunate thing is if it's great white your after you'll most likely be disappointed, the pressure on the ecosystem now means they are appearing less often, and the Ocra arnt helping. But we did see some Bronzies (copper shark) and a big ray so all wasn't lost.. the sharks were a good size 3m or so, and the staff were very experienced at lurning them in for a close encounter. Was nice to have a marine biologist on board, and the skipper was quite a character. When we got back to shore lunch was there as was a wee professional video to purchase (no pressure). I did ask how often do they head out and see nothing and was told maybe 5%.. so while it's a wildlife excursion you'd be very unlucky to miss out. I've done wildlife trips before and seen absolutely nothing.. There were a few other boats out there with other companies, but ours looked like there were fewer people on there, I didn't put my swimmers on before leaving and had time to pop them on before getting into the cage, (in the loo on the boat, don't recommend this if you get motion sickness). Was back in CT by about 2.30pm so still had time to visit another attraction. Booked through the cape town premium city pass and paid extra for the transfer. It's a jaunt from CT, as your are going to spend as much time on the bus as off,. it's a lovely drive back, just be aware of the 5 HR transfer to gansbai return. If id had the time I think I'd stay over a do some whale watching too. (I do think they have a guest house but can't comment on the quality)Written 20 March 2024
- elizabethdD8681JU0 contributionsFalse AdvertisingI enjoyed the experience - no doubt about that. I do think, though, that you should be more clear about the fact that customers will NOT see The Great White Shark. I was very disappointed when I found out that the Great White Shark had disappeared from Gansbaai. It is a little bit false advertisement in my opinion. It would be much more honest to write, which kind of sharks customers should expect to experience.Written 19 February 2024
- Chris_Whiteshark0 contributionsFantastic experience and a bit sadSecond time I joined for shark diving experience. Super organised and professional. Great service from knowledgeable staff. This is a fantastic experience for shark lovers. Unfortunately no great whites this time. They are unfortunately almost gone due to two particular Orcas, but also because of the disgusting habit of shark finning. Very sad as these magnificent creatures deserve our respect. Fortunately we saw plenty of beautiful Bronze Whalers. Stunning sharks.Written 2 February 2024

- Passenger681577792930 contributionsWhite Shark Projects Trips & Volunteer ProgramI took part in the white shark projects volunteer program, through which we were able to participate in a number of the shark cage dive trips. Every single trip the crew were super friendly and helpful, making sure everyone was put at ease if they were nervous (which there is no need to be!). All of the staff are so knowledgable about the marine life in the area and are willing to take the time to explain the history of white sharks and bronze whaler sharks in the area. It was also so nice to see the different ways that white shark projects give back to their local community, through their swop shop program, helping at local animal rescue centres and promoting other local businesses, among many other things. These are all things that the volunteers get involved in so if you have the time or the inclination I would recommend either a trip or the volunteer program to anyone!Written 14 November 2023
- iDenies0 contributionsVery nice Volunteer ProjectLast day already with White Shark Projects. For a couple of weeks, I got to help the marine biologist collect data on various sharks. 👩🔬We do this so we can help correct negative misconceptions about sharks and stop the unnecessary slaughter of more than 100 million sharks every year. They protect sharks and do research on these animals, but they do so much more beautiful community work. We also help with a 🦮🐈 animal sanctuary and do beach clean-ups🏝️🚮 They also run recycle swop shops every Tuesday afternoon, meeting the needs of children in the surrounding township community of Masakhane. The children collect recyclable materials such as plastic cans and bottles, which they use to earn points. The children can then redeem these points for necessities. These items include 🧼🧴soap, toilet paper, school supplies, toys, 🧦👚🩳 second-hand clothes and basic food🍏🍴. I feel like a privileged person to have been able to do this. Thank you so much team White Shark Company. You really made me feel like part of the family!Written 14 November 2023
- ToTheCrusade0 contributionsVolunteershipDespite our luck with actually seeing sharks, the volunteer experience was amazing, and the people me met and worked with from White Shark Projects were wonderful, very helpful and friendly. Throughout the weeks that I was there for volunteering I truly felt welcome, and learnt a lot about the people within Gansbaai and how they are affected by the ecosystem they live with. I implore anyone who is interested in marine ecosystems of tourism to look into doing a volunteer program with them, or one of the other wonderful shark diving group in Gansbaai!Written 8 August 2023

White shark project trip was a wonderful 1/2 day trip. We were pickup at our hotel in Cape Town at 4:15 am and drove for two hrs. My family slept but I stayed awake and watched the sunrise over the mts. And vineyards on the way.
Once there we were fed a wonderful breakfast and told what to expect.
We traveled only a short distance out and then the cage was dropped in . Six people go in at a time. We saw numerous copper whaler sharks ( up to 10) the largest being 15’ and a short tale stingray. Unfortunately no great whites as the orca whales are eating them and they know to stay away. We were given 2-3 opportunities to go into the cage. After 2 hrs on the water we headed back in and we were fed lunch and changed into dry clothes for the journey home. Great experience!

07:00 is the perfect time to visit Sharks in Gansbaai as they are the most active early in the morning. It was perfect weather and with a great breakfast spread before getting a safety brief by an excellent Marine guide. The friendly staff fitted us with life jackets before boarding the boat. For the next 2 hrs we were rotated in and out the cage for Shark viewing of 13 Sharks around the boat with seals in the mix. Allround a wonderful day out.

We see some small sharks. We pay the full price while the organizers know full well that we will not see great white sharks. Since the guides tell us in the boat that the great whites were chased by killer whales. Okay, that's nature. But then why keep the same prices as for the great whites? And the name of the activity is misleading. It should be called "shark cage diving" and no longer "Great White Shark cage diving".

Fantastic experience great day out.
The team were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable with your safety paramount.
It was the most amazing experience we saw a great white and a few other sharks, seeing the sharks so close up was breath taking.
There was great camaraderie between the crew and the passengers all eager to ensure you had the best time.
My son took some amazing photos, the crew also take a video of this experience that you can purchase at the end of your day
I would recommend this trip, I would go back again in a heartbeat.

A one of a kind experience! We are in awe of these beautiful fish after being so close and seeing them in their natural environment. The white shark projects team were extremely professional from beginning to end. We were made to feel welcome throughout and received a fantastic video captured by a very friendly guide Lee which I would recommend you wait to watch at the end of the trip. Can't wait to visit white shark projects again! Thanks guys!

The cage dive was great! Everything was explained well, the cages were safe and the equipment was great! However, I'm giving it two stars because when I booked (getyourguide) I had stated that the tour would last 5 hours and start at 7 a.m. As I was doing the tour alone and had to leave my wife behind in the hotel, this information was important for our planning. Not even 24 hours before the tour, the organizer told me that the meeting point would be at 9 a.m.... which my wife didn't like at all because we wanted to move on quickly after the tour. But it couldn't be changed, and cancellation was only officially possible up to 24 hours before. But I didn't try, maybe it would have worked. So I arrived at 9 a.m., hoping to leave straight away. But then we had a whole hour (breakfast). The selection was fine and everyone was nice, but it was still far too long. Then there was an instruction about the sharks, the procedure and safety and then 90 minutes after the meeting point (!!) we went out on the water in the boat. After a 15 minute ride, groups of 6 were let into the water for about 10-15 minutes. As I wrote, the experience was great! But if I book a 5 hour tour, I expect not to spend 3 hours of it on land. Especially since we were back on land at 1pm where we had lunch in the dive shop. I personally didn't think that was fair. If the schedule had been communicated as it really was, it would have been 5 stars, so - very annoying for such an awesome experience.

The most fun and adventurous trip I have ever been on!! The team at White Shark Projects were so lovely and knew so much about the sharks! Was very impressed! I felt very safe and secure on the boat and the team made sure we were all okay which made me feel very happy. It felt so surreal actually seeing the sharks in the flesh compared to seeing them on a screen in a nature documentary perhaps - it was so insane!! I had seen a 4 metre whale shark, and two bronzer whale sharks! Scary but honestly so breathtaking! The thrilling atmosphere on the boat and seeing the people around us so excited was something that will stick with me for a long time.
When we came off the boat, we were able to see pictures and videos that the team had taken of us - an amazing team that you could tell were extremely passionate about the project and would give you an amazing experience every time!
We were treated with immaculate breakfast and lunch facilities, served by lovely, friendly staff who couldn't have done more for us this entire trip. Our lodge and shower facilities were super and out of this world!
Thank you so much to White Shark Projects for making this incomparable experience I will never ever forget. Our South Africa trip was truly made. I would definitely return back here in a heartbeat. The BEST!!!!

The highlight of the trip was the staff and crew that work for the white shark project, the whole team made the day an experience never to forget. They were all so friendly and knowledgable and you could really tell they cared about the oceans and marine wildlife! I would highly recommend using them if you are to go shark cage diving in the western cape. Thanks again to everyone involved for such a great day.

Myself and a friend would like to do this activity on 31st Oct and I can see you have some availability still so hoping to book tomorrow. Just wanted to check first if you can pick up from Cape Town and at what cost this is for a return journey?
Thanks

muchas gracias!

Are you connected to an oxygen tank like proper diving or is it snorkel etc?
Written 15 February 2019
Sorry for delay, had accommodation problems so been on the move quite a bit.
Have been with a few companies and they do not use oxygen, it apparently frightens the sharks. They provide wetsuits, masks and towels and you just hold your breath and duck under the surface when told. Most companies also provide food either at their base or a lunch packs. Well worth a try.
