Stellenbosch is more than just a "cute place to drink wine." Yes, it's lovely. Yes, there's no shortage of wine. But there's an interesting history hidden among the lovely shops and cozy cafes. This easy one-hour tour is led by a local guide and delivers a nice overview that provides context for the rest of your stay in Stellenbosch.

Juliana Rossouw was very enthusiastic about the town and her passion comes out during the guided tour. She has depth of knowledge and grew up here, working at the University before becoming a tour guide 8 years ago. She knows her history and not to spoil the details, her father was even chosen as the “governor, Simon van der Stel “ one year in the annual ceremony at the Braak. She adds other places of interest that people should visit. An easy walk through town, comfortable pace.

This was such a good experience. Julianna, our guide grew up in Stellenbosch and speaks of her town with knowledge, passion and enthusiasm. It's beautiful to stroll whilst someone gives you interesting facts ans shows you things of beauty you may otherwise not have noticed - especially on such a short visit. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a very enjoyable tour with our guide Juliana. We were lucky, we were the only two on the tour. She gave us a lot of information about the history of this beautiful town. Moreover she told us a lot of nice things to know when staying in Stellenbosch. It was a very pleasant experience, highly recommended. She suggested to speak Afrikaans because we are Dutch. Never thought it would be that easy to follow for us. Very nice experience, thank you Juliana.

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour of Stellenbosch. Great way to get your bearings and understand more about the history of the place. Our guide was highly knowledgeable and made the experience lots of fun. Also, our group was of just five people which was even better!

Great tour with Johan. Very personable and informative. We have become walking tour junkies, taking advantage of this way of learning about cities all over the world. This one was definitely up with the best. In addition to the local history, Johan is also very knowledgable about the local wineries.

I was looking forward to the walking tour having read others' comments. They must have had a different guide!

The "information" we were fed was a mixture of facts, quasi-facts, and downright rubbish. Personal opinions seem to have been the most important information to impart.

Shame, it could have been so much better!

For anybody interested in the history of this area, the tour was excellent and informative and enjoyable. Our guide was superb and despite the fact that only two of us were there. gave us great value and commitment. The history of the town is fascinating - how the Dutch came to the area and how things developed and there also much about how the town is now - it provided a real insight into this aspect of South African life. Highly recommended. For somebody in wine country who isn't that big on wine it was a nice change! My only quibble is that the sign up for the website was tricky and they might be better off using a simpler system like Eventbrite - but I emailed them and the response was swift and helpful.

I just completed this walking tour which was very informative and interesting. It lasted 1.5 hours and brought me around all the historical buildings of the town, giving me a good insight into the development of the town over the centuries.
My guide was very pleasant and although I was the only one on the tour, this did not pose any problem, and I got to places which I wouldn't have known existed.

Thanks for a great afternoon steeped in the culture of the town.
