Good trip to see Sea Lions and some penguins and few coper sharks
Experience was average. Well organised, but no dolphins or whales. It should be advertise more precisely. Like ... maybe you will be extremely lucky and you'll have a chance see a whale(s) or dolphins, but highly unlikely. Great white shark - no chance - twice every 10 year if you are working as staff.

A very worthwhile experience - good value for money and highly recommended.
A fantastic boat trip. We were fortunate to see four of the big five, and thought the service and attentiveness of all the crew members was outstanding. We appreciated the commentary from the marine biologist who was a mine of interesting information. A particular highlight was the 20 minutes we spent with a mother and calf Southern Right whale, who put on a great performance, getting up close to the boat on a number of occasions. The seal colony off Dyer Island didn't disappoint either! We felt very safe as it's clear that the company takes safety very seriously, and ensured we were fully briefed before the trip, as well as provided with life jackets and optional water proof jackets. There was also storage on the boat for our personal belongings, to ensure they didn't get wet or slip overboard. The coffee and muffin before the trip, as well as the soup and freshly backed breadroll at the end of the trip, were both very nice touches, which helped stave off the hunger after an early start. All in all a very worthwhile experience which we'd highly recommend.

Awesome trip and saw so much wildlife. The trip from Capetown was seamless and the driver was friendly. Excellent experience and a MUST do for anyone wanting to see marine life around Cape Town!

          Amazing trip
Really professional company, we felt safe all the way in very very choppy sea. Every effort was made to ensure everyone got to see the wildlife. The whales were amazing. The daily blog for each trip with pictures is great as it's very difficult to get clear photos when the boat is bouncing around so much. The work they do in supporting penguins is inspiring. Be warned take sea sickness tablets even if you don't generally feel ill at sea!

A trip one should not miss
The group tour was very well organised. I was picked up early in the morning and brought back to my accommodation. Before we're boarded the boat, we received enough information about what to expect as well as the conservation work that the Dyer Island Conservation is doing. Throughout the boat trip, a biologist enlightened us about the whales, sharks, penguins and seals. Due to bad weather, we couldn't stay long enough in the sea to see dolphins. But that's understandable. They provided a small breakfast, muffins and tea, and after the windy boat trip we got a much appreciated hot soup and tea. All in all I could recommend this tour. They really paid attention to details to our satisfaction.

          Well worth doing
This was an amazing experience. Though we had a really early start the day did not disappoint. We saw whales, bronze sharks, seals & penguins. We also had a trip to the penguin sanctuary which was informative. I would recommend this trip but just note not all animal sightings are guaranteed. The dolphins were not around this time of year but the other sightings made up for it.

          close encounters
I loved being able to see the seals, whales and sharks so closely. They will also point out birds for those who are interested. The team was very supportive of my husband who was sea sick (which happens on most boats). You can get free pictures from the tour so you don't have to worry about that. There is also an opportunity to buy a video. Really appreciate the role this company plays in conservation. After the tour going to the Penguin and Seabird sanctuary is a must.

          Amazing experience.
This was an amazing tip and we had several large whales come right up to the ship and stay there for over 10 minutes! Definitely the tour to choose. The boat is smaller so it only holds around 25 people. This was great because it wasn't so crowded and you got an amazing view right at the rails of the boat. The captain was very respectful of the whales so it didn't seem as though they were bothered or harmed in any way. It was their choice to approach the boat. What a wonderful experience. Book this tour!

          Awesome time at sea
Only discrepancies was TripAdvisor has start time at 9am. Pick up time from hotel in capetown was 6am. Start of activity/arrival was about 9am. Was thrown off w such an early start enticipating 9am pickup. But communication was good and was made aware of time day before. Pickup n drop off was smooth n easy. Arival you get coffee/tea n muffins, return from boat you get soup n homemade rolls(yummy). All staff were professional and knowledgeable. All staff on board the boat were engaging in conversation w visitors and answered any questions anyone had. Advice is get something that secures your phone /camera around your neck, boat can get rocky and was holding phone tight as to not have slip out of hands. This was an awesome trip and very enjoyable. Check out there reasonablely priced gift in shop.

          Successful sea safari
Smooth pickup and trip to the boat in a comfortable mini-bus. I saw everything advertised (whales, sharks, seals, and penguins) with the crew taking care to point everything out and how to position ourselves on the boat to see things best.

An excellent way to spend a morning
It’s an early start to the day but worth it for a really enjoyable experience on the water. It’s about a 90 min drive from Cape Town (they pick you up and drop you off of course). The crew on board is fantastic. Kelly, our marine biologist, was amazing - kind, patient, and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions. The rest of the crew works hard to spot animals and keep you as dry and comfortable as possible. Towels are handed out freely to protect you and your camera. We saw about 5 pairs of moms and their calves, one common shark, and tons of seals. Penguins were visible from a distance and up close from the rehabilitation center that is included as part of the tour. Coffee and muffins provided for breakfast, soup and bread for lunch after. You spend about two hours on the water.

Good couple of hours seeing whales and seals up close
A very enjoyable couple of hours out on the water to see seals and Southern Right whales close up. Unfortunately we didn't see sharks or dolphins, but never mind. Guides were very informative, the boat was comfortable with plenty of opportunities to see the animals. My only negative is that it took an hour for the team to process around 25 people before we could board

One of the highlights of our trip to SA
The one thing I would say that could be improved and the reason for giving a 4 instead of 5, is this itinerary has some gaps in it that could really make this quite unenjoyable if you’re not prepared for it. While I appreciated that I was able to be picked up and dropped off at my hotel in Camps Bay, I couldn’t help but feel like I didn’t fully realize what I had signed up for. They scheduled our pickup for 5am (the first of 5 pickup stops). While this was quite early, what made it more unbearable was that at the end of the day we were also the last drop off, near 3pm. What they failed to tell you was that there is no break for meals scheduled in this. The only opportunities to eat are the underwhelming pastries offered at the property where the tours begins 8:30am-9am, and some soup and bread which is offered after you return from the marine tour. If you don’t want anything they have to offer, you’re basically out of luck and hopefully you brought your own snacks. Pushing nearly 12hrs without a legitimate meal is hard for even the lightest of eaters, so be aware that you will need to fend for yourself most of the day. Other than that, the tour itself was quite lovely and the staff and volunteers were really such a pleasure and incredibly knowledgeable. We saw 3 of the big 5, and only 2 people got sea sick (children). Would recommend if you’re up for a long day and have snacks on deck.

It was an incredible experience for the entire family. Our group ranged in age from 2 to 70 years old, and we're certain that we've created unforgettable memories. We had the chance to observe whales, sharks, penguins, and seals. A big thanks to the whole team!

Disappointing on many levels. Lack of sightings in poor weather can’t be helped, but there was a dearth of information from crew on board about what was happening. The trip seemed more about “the adventure” than a serious attempt at wildlife viewing.
This was an uncomfortable outing on safety grounds too: they went ahead despite poor sea conditions, but most concerning was the life jacket fitted to passengers by staff, which they fitted and fastened underneath the outer waterproof jacket they then provided. This seems quite wrong. The yellow jackets came with a toggle, presumably to inflate - though this wasn’t made clear. The toggle was inaccessible once the outer coat was closed. Life jackets are brightly coloured because they are intended to be visible in the water but these would be concealed beneath green outer coats. Whether they would inflate properly when restricted by an outer garment is also debatable.
This was their last day operating ahead of a spell of poor weather and they were trying to accommodate a large number of people who would otherwise have missed out, so may not be typical. But it was poor and the life jacket policy needs reviewing as a priority.

Dear Gethin Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We can only ask you to please have a look at our blog to see the most fantastic sightings we’ve had from our whale-watching vessels for the past month via our website. We are very passionate about marine conservation and for that reason, always have a marine biologist on board, not only marine guides. We most definitely believe, that viewing the Marine Big 5 from a 5-star vessel is a wonderful, educational adventure. We hope you enjoyed the sightings of many albatrosses, sooty shearwaters, terns, penguins, and seals – and we hope you saw the humpback whales breaching. Your safety on board is our first priority. Our crew is well trained according to our Emergency Standing Operating Procedures. This includes fitting the self-inflating life jacket underneath the wet weather jacket. The life jackets will self-inflate in case of an emergency, e.g., man overboard. The staff who fitted and fastened the life jackets also pointed out the safety toggle. They also explain that this should only be used when instructed to do so by the captain. It would be very unsafe and not advisable to wear the life jacket above your wet weather jacket for obvious practical reasons. Our safety policies are often reviewed and are most definitely our top priority. We would also like to point out that our safety regulations are in line with the International Maritime Organisation and also a precedent for small passenger vessels in South Africa.

Building the excitment as we left the harbour in search f the Marine Big 5. First we saw a Bottle Nosed dolphine, followed quickly by 3 penguins frolicking in the ocean. Then a small seal chasing a fish for its lunch, and then 3 bronze whaler sharks, quite close to our boat. Just as we started to turn to head back, Thar She Blows, and we came acorss a beautiful Southern Right whale, giving us a great view and a final big wave of its tale, as we left the animal in peace. A great boat ride, great informative crew, and a chance to meet Wilfred the owner. If you have time after your cruise, visit the Seabird Sancturay, very close by in Gansbaii, and see the incredible Conservation work carried out on injured birds and animals, we saw a small penguin who had just been rescuded, gave me chills all over, knowing there are many people out there who care.

we were lucky,a sunny day in August and a calm ocean,no wurries about sea sickness. After a warm welcome at the hotel, information about the trip, the wildlife and safy instructins,we got clicked in a lifevest and a rain jacket to keep us safe and dry. We got on the boat at the harbour and as soon as we drove out at the ocean there was a couple of whales in front of us! We stayed long enough to enjoy the view and take pictures. We visited the little islands with the seals and the penguins, saw the boat with the shark spotters. We felt very welcome and safe with the personel on board who informed us about the animals we saw and anwered all our questions. They kept a close eye on us for our safety on board and asked if we were ok and not feeling sick. When we got back to the hotel they were waiting for us with soup and little buns. Thank you Dyer for a very nice morning sea life spotting.

My wife and I had a fantastic time with Dyer Island cruisers (Kleinbaai) and were fortunate enough to see 4 of the big 5. The crew were really friendly and the marine biologist gave some real in depth insights into the marine life that we saw on the day. On a side note the conservation efforts that the team are putting in to preserve the African Penguins is amazing and we were happy to invest in a Penguin Penthouse :)!

We went on the morning trip and had loads of fun. Saw a great white jumping out of the water (Wow!), a Brydes whale and some southern right whales, as well as seals and birds. The tour was very informative and the crew very knowledgeable. Also enjoyed the boat ride. Highly recommended.

I have been on a few whale wathcing tours before which, frankly, have left me a little disappointed. This was brilliant, with professional and attentive staff (especially the girl from Leigh, England, sorry can't remember the name).

Thank you, Neal, for your support! The 5-star review is much appreciated. Thank you for complimenting our staff and (Olivia), who was your guide during the tour! It is great to hear that you had a brilliant time out at sea. We hope to see you back soon!

An amazing experience. We didnt see dolphins or sharks but did get to see 4 whales and had bonus experience of releasing 2 penguinsback into wildlife. . Very friendly staff and very wonderful experience. This doesnt leave from Hermanus though. Its another 55 minute drive to Kleinbaai.
