- 1Waterfront Charters offers Sailing in The Bay aboard two beautiful catamarans. 1) Esperance, a 16m (50 ft.) schooner with twin masts and twin seating areas 2) Serenity One, a 12m (40 ft.) state-of-the-art sailing catamaran. Cruise departure time is 11h00 and 13h00 from the Quay 5, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Cruises are subject to wind speed and direction, and the skippers always choose the most comfortable course. During the summer season the route is often across Table Bay towards Milnerton Lighthouse. In winter months, the direction is often along the Clifton coastline or towards Robben Island. Chilled refreshments are served throughout (cash bar available). Lunch add-on available.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sherpa214406560580 contributionsWas super amazing!I had an amazing time on Serenity one, the crew were so helpful and friendly, the captain was super informative but the music was by far the best for me... it really matched the experience - thank you captain/DJ Tinashe.Written 7 October 2024
- Flyer182694119600 contributionsMust do when in Cape TownWhat an amazing experience. We did this cruise on the first night of our honeymoon. The crew found out its our honeymoon and made it super special. We got to do the titanic in front of the boat and the crew came multiple time to assist us in getting the perfect pictures. They played love songs and we were able to dance on the boat. The staff were so amazing and we had a ball. They even had blankets on board as it was windy and chilly. This was the second time I did this cruise. The first was 3 years back and each time it is still breathtaking. I do it again and again.Written 6 October 2024
- pjstridh0 contributionsBIG recommendationA BIG recommendation to take this trip! The crew was very kind with helping us take photos and also with the bar service! And the boat was a big plus as well with good seating possibilities, both inside and outside. And it also had a good standard toilet. You can’t get a better sunset experience in Cape town than this!Written 12 September 2024
- sl24870 contributionsAmazing!Very beautiful boat. It was a gorgeous day and the scenery was top notch. The water got a little bit rough at times but that’s to be expected. The crew handled it well and checked on us to make sure we were comfortable, putting us at ease. I would definitely book this cruise again!Written 24 August 2024
- sandrasY625CF0 contributionsWorst sunset cruise everI understand title is champagne, but heads up….that is ONLY drink they have, outside of Coke, Water and juice boxes. We have been on many similar cruises and all have had at least beer and a red and white wine as well as the champagne. AND the champagne the did serve on this cruise was incredibly poor quality …. Would rather have had sparkling water. There were 8 passengers so nice space for seating. But curious that the crew began to increase the volume of the dance music with each song… by the time we were heading back in the music was very loud and yet none of the passengers were appearing to be “into” it…. And one pax had seasickness….So when does the crew “read the room”? I finally asked it to be turned down.Written 15 August 2024
- Kai_Wah0 contributionsA Total Disappointment!!!We booked online for 1-hour schooner ride for 4 of us and selected our time at 11am. But the company simply changed it to 3pm with a confirmation WhatsApp message. We then had to make overseas IDD call to the company to change the according to our initial time selected. On the day of tour, we arrived early as the T&C states that passengers who are late will be denied boarding. Guess what?! We did not start the boat ride until 11.30am which was half an hour late. To make matter worst, the schooner ride was changed to catamaran without prior notice. The staff simply gave us feeble excuse that the schooner was stuck at the nearby draw bridge which was not in time to arrive for our boarding. The reason probably due to not enough bookings, so they just combined 4 of us with another 2 other tourists for catamaran ride instead. If it was only 6 tourists on the catamaran, you could imagine this probably not a popular activity in Cape Town. The catamaran was much smaller and choppy in the sea. We were bouncing on the catamaran most of the time and there wasn’t any scenic views or marine life to see. Apparently, it was a cloudy day that the Table Mountain was covered up by clouds. The staff simply pointed afar for the whale which were so far and we hardly could see anything other than the gloomy weather. The company could have cancelled the ride on bad weather without beautiful views of Table Mountain and refunded us the money. A total disappointment!!!Written 4 August 2024

- nathanl4220 contributionsUnsafe experience with no follow up from managementTook the ocean safari cruise with Waterfront Charters but encountered safety issue of one motor on the boat overheating. We were left drifting around the bay with large swells over half an hour with one operating motor. We did not see any ocean animals due to this issue. The kicker was no offer of refund or rescheduled session with the operator. We are still awaiting a response from Waterfront Charters senior management. Buyer beware!Written 4 July 2024
- L2266JQjackiem0 contributionsPerfect sunset cruise!!What a great way to experience sunset!! On board a beautiful catamaran, drinks in hand, amazing local music, and the most gorgeous views!!! The staff did an excellent job taking care of everyone making sure that everyone was happy and had everything they needed- even did mini photo shoots with anyone who wanted!! We loved this cruise!!Written 23 June 2024
- L2266JQjackiem0 contributionsFantastic Ocean Safari!!I’ve already done this twice and I plan to go again while in Cape Town!! It’s a perfect, quick activity and SOO much fun!! Both times we saw seals, penguins, lots of jelly fish, and dolphins!! One time I got really lucky and even saw some whales!! It’s so incredible to see wildlife in their natural environment and never know exactly what you’re going to see!! And the team at waterfront charters does an excellent job!!Written 23 June 2024
- Trail393785836340 contributionsTerrible experience!!!Terrible first time experience!!! We missed our boat trip due to a serious car accident on our way to V&A Waterfront. When we claimed our refund the next day we were told that we had to cancel ahead of time which we were unable to do because we were in a car accident, we were also told that our booking is non-refundable. They crooked us, they have no sympathy and their policy is not clear.Written 19 June 2024

Calling customers if trips are cancelled and sending your manager for customer service course.
This is what transpired.
So we booked and paid our boat trip for the 2nd of January 2021 already Wednesday the 30th of December 2020. We arrived even earlier than instructed just to be surprised that the boat is already leaving. The skipper told us that they are leaving with a private group and the four of us must go to the office to rearrange.
Obviously annoyed, we walked to the office. We requested to speak with the manager.
This manager was the most unhelpful and rude manager we came across in a long time. He basically told us it is our problem as he has issues with skeleton staff. (Not sure where he found the staff to take the private group though). I tried to explain to him that we would have at least appreciated a call so we could make alterior arrangements. They are wasting precious time of our holiday. For example, we could not attend slots for sand boarding and Quad bike rides that was available during this time and some of us was leaving Cape Town the next day. He acted as if it was us that are totally unreasonable. At long last after a very unpleasant conflict session he put us on another boat trip. Fortunately the staff on the boat made it pleasant. We stay in Cape Town and always try to bring our guests on boat trips. We will definitely think twice in future before using this boat company again.

We had such a amazing time, felt like tourist in our own beautiful country a special thank you to Cameron and the rest of the crew you made sure the vibe was amazing... We love the beautiful Cape and this was just a different view. I loved that they actually stopped the boat to pick up a drifting piece of plastic bag from the ocean, if all humans where like you! Well done guys!! Thanks again*

I had an excellent time on the Serenity one this afternoon and I must say the crew were an exceptional crew, they made us laugh and made sure we had a wonderful time. I really enjoyed seeing the dolphins and the music on the boat, I would definitely recommend this tour to my friends as I would in the future want to do it again myself. Shout out to Gavin for making this a wonderful experience for me and to skipper and Gary for taking good care of us. This is a definite must-do when coming to cape town,

It was awesome. The guide Andries an his helpers were informative and attentive. The OBS helped a lot with the chilly morning. We saw whales, dolfins, lots of seals and the pelican. Fresh Oysters en bunny was served. What a awesome setting for this. Lots of soft and beers was available. . Snacks and delish sweet treats was the final high of the day. It was n 3 1/2 hour trip and we’ll worth it would highly recommend it

Admittedly on a day with amazing weather and views we also were lucky enough to see a school of 30 dolphins bow swim just out of port. We also saw a mother whale and baby and saw the classic tail flip (though were not quick enough to capture on camera). Skipper clearly knows the bay and how to spot and follow marine life. Just a great atmosphere on board ... take sunblock and cap ... we had to borrow cap which sadly 😂 blew off but was expertly recovered by the crew. Oh btw there is a bar on board.

Had such an amazing experience with the Esperance boat team. So welcoming and made the experience fun. Ride began with a safety talk which was simple and easy to understand. They provided us with blankets (highly advise to bring a windbreaker as the waves make it chilly) to keep us warm and took good care of me when I felt sea sick. There are refreshments on board and a toilet. The team even allowed us to steer the bought. Would definitely recommend and planning to do the sunset ride next time.

Yesterday my boyfriend and I boarded Serenity One for a one-hour afternoon boat cruise @ The V&A Waterfront. What an amazing experience! That is all thanks to the crew consisting of Ruan, Hilton and Daniel. They made sure our glasses were full and assisted us with anything we needed. They were also very informative about Cape Town itself and its surroundings. Will definitely see them again!

We did a cruise on the Serenity One and enjoyed every second of it. From the moment of arrival the crew was very welcoming and friendly.
Onboard it feels luxurious and relaxing. The crew went out of their way to make the experience memorable and fun as we had a birthday boy onboard. The trip itself was great.
Covid-19 rules and protocols are followed and implemented perfectly.
The crew, Jonny, Dylan and Gareth definitely deserves a massive applaud .

We decided to do a "spur of the moment" boat-cruise before catching our flight. We boarded the Serenity One. What an amazing experience. The crew were friendly, funny, helpful and very professional. They treated us like royalty and even stopped for us to view the Sun Fish. They were at our beck and call and assisted with anything we needed. A definite must do when in Cape Town. Thanks for an awesome time Hilton, Zee and Rouxhan!
