Great Intro to Food, Culture & History
Fun walking/eating tour that provides a nice orientation to CBD and Bo-Kaap. Very well organized. Walking distances and paces were very reasonable. Selected restaurants and shops had a lot of character, and a nice mix of foods associated with local cultures. Our guide, Justin, was friendly and very knowledgeable about Cape Town’s history and culture.

This was a fantastic tour. Justin was a personable and had a wonderful knowledge base, from food, to wine, coffee, Cape Town history, and even rugby and cricket. The food choices were outstanding - very different and very tasty.

    Food tour Cape Town
We loved every minute and left full of food and information about the city’s history and food culture. Justin, our guide, was amazing, a wealth of knowledgeable and so personable. We love food tours, and do them quite regularly, and this one definitely rates at the top! Highly recommend!

Delicious sampling of multicultural Cape Town
Top notch tour. Justin our guide was thoughtful, informative, and candid about the many ethnic-cultural aspects of this tour, including apartheid, cape Malay, and African cultures. Additionally, the food was exquisite and just the right portions for a four stop tour.

    Highlight of our visit!
This was one of the best food tours I’ve ever been on! Justin was an engaging and extremely knowledgeable guide. The tour was thoughtfully curated across 4 unique locations that each had an interesting history, and the variety of dishes, portion sizes and time spent at each location were perfect. I highly recommend it!

    Incredible Food Tour!
I had the most amazing experience on the Cape Town Essentials Tour. It's an absolute must if you're interested in exploring the culture, history, and local cuisine of the area. The places we visited were fascinating, and the food was fantastic. Our guide, Justin, was outstanding—he was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the city. I highly recommend this tour!

Food + Walking + History + Meeting Locals
I've previously been to Cape Town twice and was looking to get a different perspective. We made an excellent decision to include a tour with Cape Town Culinary Tours. Our guide, Justin, engaged with everyone on the tour, and there was never a lull during the four stops we made. Each stop was unique, all of the tastings were excellent, and we left the tour wanting nothing more than a small snack for dinner and a glass of wine. While this was a "food tour" it was also very much a history tour -- Justin didn't shy away from any questions fellow guests had. I enthusiastically recommend a tour with Cape Town Culinary Tours for friends/family/clients.

    Amazing! Book Now!
We have done countless food tours in our travels and this was one of the absolute best! This was the most interactive and informative tour I ever could have imagined. Justin foraged some plants and fruits for us along our tour giving us an authentic taste of the land. The food stops were all superb with a great variety. Justin’s knowledge was also incredible, there wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer. He had great insight and wonderful stories. I also loved that at a few stops he ate with us, it felt like we were all friends. He also knew EVERYONE at every establishment and his love for his community is palpable. Thank you Justin for the best tour!

    A Fantastic Tour
This was a fantastic tour. Not only was the food great, but Justin, who led the tour was the best. He was not only knowledgeable about the food and restaurants, but equally as important he was so knowledgeable about Cape Town and able to speak from his own experience. He really made this tour one of our best experiences. We also returned to one of the restaurants for a whole meal because it was so good.

Tasty culinary adventure in cape Town
Our food tour with Cape Town Culinary Tours was fantastic. We loved tasting the delicious Cape Malay and Dutch foods and learning about the area's history. The street foraging was a fun surprise. Our guide, Justin, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour to explore Cape Town's culture and cuisine!

I requested a tour as a surprise for my wife the day before and although the tours were not being run due to Covid, our guide Elsje made the arrangements and took us on a private tour which was amazing. Walking through the city with her and her wealth of knowledge about Cape Town and experiencing the interesting food in restaurants which we normally would not have known about was a great choice. My only advice to other travellers is to go on this journey hungry! The food portions are very generous.

We recently went on the food safari tour during our stay in Cape Town. We did this early on in our visit & it was worthwhile from the info we learned about the city & lots of our questions were answered for us. Justin went the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed the experience. We definitely tried food we had never tasted before - visiting an Ethiopian & Tanzanian restaurants - where we were served a variety of foods. We also tried a snack type food called a Gatsby & sampled Senegalese coffee ( not my favourite). We finished with a visit to a gin bar where we sampled elephant dung gin (which tasted very good) & chocolates from a chocolatier.

My fiance and I did this tour because a couple we are friends with went a few months before. They had nothing but great things to say about the experience they had with Elsje and we had a similarly AMAZING time with Justin. Justin was knowledgeable about the history of Cape Town and how it connected with all the places we went. Even if you are not into history, the food is PHENOMENAL. I literally loved everything. You will have to stop yourself from finishing all of the food because you will be STUFFED! We did Stellenbosch and Constantia wineries, went out to many restaurants and had a wonderful time in Cape Town, but this food safari was the best part! Justin also did a great job recommending things to do in Cape Town and we had a great time going to his suggestions! My advice would be to do this tour on your first day in Cape Town so you can have time to enjoy the recommendations that you are sent afterwards. Thank you Justin for a great time! - Jewel & Ameer

A tour by a true local who knows the city intimately, Justin was a treasure trove of information, teaching us so much about the history and influences behind some incredibly tasty dishes. We had a blast following him around as he showed us some of the most delicious and culturally significant dishes to grace Cape Town.

Can't recommend enough!

We enjoyed our tour and it was a great way to eat and learn about the different cultures in South Africa. The way the tour was oriented was for two bigger meals at two local restaurants, followed by a wine tasting and gin/chocolate tasting. We might have preferred to learn a bit more by stopping at more places and trying lots of different things instead of the big meals, but overall it was a tremendous experience and our guide was very helpful!

Hi there William! Thank you so much for joining us on tour and sharing your review, it means a lot to us. We appreciate the note about the food it does go down as a lot as African cultures show hospitality by providing more than enough food. But we are taking it in account and will see how we can spread it our equally on tour so the 2 main meals are not so heavy! We hope to have you back in town soon to host you on the Essentials tour! Safe travels, keep hungry & kind regards, Justin and the CTCT Team!

If I could rate this tour 10 stars, I would do so without a second thought. My husband and I loved everything about it. Justin, our tour guide was spectacular! He was so full of information, which was readily shared with us. My husband Mark and I both discussed this as soon as the tour was over and the thing that stood out to both of us was the fact that Justin had no qualms about telling history the way it was. I mean, he really leaned in to what most would consider “tough conversations” to have across racial lines and we really felt good about how easy these conversations were for him. We truly appreciated it! I mean history is just what it is. We wish more people were like him and willing to have these discussions and not feel threatened or afraid. Next thing was the food and drinks! OMG, what can I say,
Other than the places on this tour were absolutely the perfect spots to choose. We even stopped at a coffee shop along the way simply because I had a question about coffee but it was not a part of the tour. We spent a bit of time there discussing details and answering my questions. Mark and I absolutely loved our time spent with Justin and we definitely recommend this tour. You won’t be disappointed! Thanks, Justin!

This tour was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I was curious! As it turned out, I loved all of the unique restaurants we visited and felt very welcomed at each of them. Justin knows the city, as well as the people and the food in each of the places we visited. I could easily have made a meal of the food we sampled in each of the restaurants but I know my limits. In addition to the 3 wonderful restaurants, we also got to visit a Senegalese coffee cafe and a South African wine bar for a total experience. Justin has a wealth of information and was very willing to share his knowledge with us. This is a "don't miss" tour!

We had such a great experience with Justin as our guide. We booked this for the start of our trip to Cape Town so we could ‘get our bearings’ so to speak and get expert advice on places to visit (and avoid) for great food and drinks. We also wanted to experience great African cuisine and wines and learn more about the history, the people and the culture the area. Justin did not disappoint with his expert knowledge and engaging style. We learnt so much and it got our trip off to the ideal start

We loved this tour and we loved Ellie. She’s so knowledgeable about her city, its history, the food and the people. We went to places that we never would have gone to on our own and there is a story behind every business. We wish we were staying longer so we could do another tour. Don’t miss this experience!
